Well, maybe a bit much to say "died". The thing no longer recognizes
anything you stick in the drive, making it a bit useless for games and
movie playing
Any idea what a new blu-ray drive costs for the PS3? I don't know if Sony
will still think this is under warranty or not.

Try calling them first, it may be a soft thing you can fix (like, you
know, hold the eject button for 3 seconds while you press the little
thingy under the PS3 symbol and flapping your ears 3 times). >> Stay informed about: two years after release, PS3 still in LAST place in U.S. and |

The other point is that, as opposed to Microsoft and Sony, Nintendo
actually makes money with each Wii sold. >> Stay informed about: two years after release, PS3 still in LAST place in U.S. and |

What chart are you using? I could have sworn I saw Wii Sports and Wii
Play on there as well. Wii Sports is there pretty much every week
since it comes with every console, and you can't really beat that
without, you know, actually taking a free game off the sales charts. >> Stay informed about: two years after release, PS3 still in LAST place in U.S. and |

so do microsoft now, on a per unit basis.
obviously this probably doesnt take into account the massive wedge

Sorry for being late to point this out, but Wii Sports IS NOT packed in in
Japan, but still sold over 3 million copies
(http://wii.ign.com/articles/878/878096p1.html)
The linked story says three million Wii Sports games sold, to an install
base of just over 6 million. Not too shabby.

Sony certainly messed up big time with the initial pricing of the PS3 - it's
still way too expensive compared with the other systems. >> Stay informed about: two years after release, PS3 still in LAST place in U.S. and |

while i agree, i can also see their problem as even with the high
price, they still lose a fair amount of money per unit, and that
doesnt look like changing any time soon. >> Stay informed about: two years after release, PS3 still in LAST place in U.S. and |

I wonder why I can go out and buy an eMachine with a fairly fast dual-core
cpu, a gig of ram, a 320 gig hdd and a dual-layer DVD for $300 bucks but M$
and Sony can't make a profit on what were $450 dollar consoles. Must be
some pretty expensive components in those boxes.

Of course, now that it's 3 years after the fact. Nintendo has been
making money hand over fist since day one. Nintendo will never lose
money on the sale of a particular unit.
