I've heard this a lot, and you're right. UT99's implementation was
much better if you don't like talking to bots.
Can't help you much with the other stuff. A lot of folks skipped the
single player campaign altogether (playing online is where it's at).
Others, like myself, burned through it years ago and haven't touched
it since. My guess though is that you need to play through the thing
in the order it's layed out. It's a bit of an anti-climax anyway...
you would probably be better off simply playing the offline versions
of the games you like and not even bothering with the ladder. I *do*
recall when the game first came out that a lot of people discovered
bugs. The main thing winning the tournament is *supposed* to do is to
unlock a couple of different character models, but even *that* was
broken. Most people just modified their .ini files to get the
additional player models.
