Picked up at a flea market today:
Chiki Chiki Boys
Shadown Dancer
General Chaos
All complete for $20.
One guy just told me online that GC complete alone goes for about 20 --
is he kidding?! Wow, funny thing is, I almost passed. I wanted to buy
SNES games mainly, but the seller was refusing to budge on his "$12 per
SNES title" policy, though some were clearly worth only five dollars.
I was about to walk out but then saw the 3 GEN games and fearing he'd
demand 20 for them since they were complete, he just looked at them and
went "eh, 20 for all." Shocked me. I bought it thinking it was a
decent deal. No idea it was THAT good.. >> Stay informed about: wow, did I really get THAT good a deal?? |

They are a business and need to make decisions to keep themselves in
business.
The number of people that actually buy 3DO, Neo Geo, Dreamcast, and
Saturn games is significantly lower than the number of people buying
N64, Playstation, and current gen stuff.
These stores have a limited amount of shelf space, and for every 3DO,
Neo, DC, or Saturn game they would have, that's less space for the stuff
that sells better. My guess is they would sell at least 10 PS1 or N64
games for every 1 Dreamcast or Saturn game, and the odds for 3DO and Neo
Geo would be closer to 100 to 1 considering the much more limited
distribution of those titles.
There are, of course, companies that do deal in everything, but here in
Southern California, I've seen a lot of them come and go... the only
ones left have very small sections for the more obscure systems and they
supplement their sale income through rentals.
Heck, if I owned a game store, I'd love to carry Saturn and Dramcast
titles - and furthermore, I wouldn't stock any EA titles, and would
proudly have a neon sign out front stating such. And I probably would
go out of business within a year.
Not to bash your choice of not shopping at Gamestop as I no longer shop
there either thanks to their pushy salespeople and dishonest business
tactics (no it's not new if an employee brought it home and played it,
even if it is re-sealed), but the reason you gave seems a little foolish
to me.
Of course if you don't play current gen stuff at all, then it makes
perfect sense >> Stay informed about: wow, did I really get THAT good a deal?? |

As I've said, it's only one of many reasons. The straw that broke the
camel's back was the dishonest pricing that almost caused another class-
action lawsuit (like the used-games-as-new thing from 2003.) If you
advertise a game for $9.99 and then charge in-store customers $24.99, do
you really expect people to come back?
I still believe it's possible to be profitable and serve all parts of your
market, and not just the mainstream. "Staying in business" is one more
poor justification on a long list of excuses for modern corporations to
cut corners and reduce services. But we risk flying off topic abit.
>Of course if you don't play current gen stuff at all, then it makes

I'm actually a little bummed about how little my older systems get
activated now. The Saturn sees regular action, but the 3DO and the Neo Geo
stuff isn't nearly as active as I thought it would be. I just lately
disconnected the N64 and the Jaguar to make room for the next generation
stuff. In general, I don't play nearly as often as I used to. I hope that
changes once Phantasy Star Universe gets released.

If there was a lawsuit about that it didn't have much effect, because
they're still doing it... >> Stay informed about: wow, did I really get THAT good a deal?? |

Well I was referring to the "used as new" thing that they're still doing. >> Stay informed about: wow, did I really get THAT good a deal?? |

Well, a number of Konami games such as Sparkster and Tiny Toons are
different on each platform to justify getting both. While most consider
SNES ports to be better, there are a number of exceptions such as
Thunder Force III vs. Thunder Spirits and Earthworm Jim on Genesis vs.
SNES that make the Sega version the one to own. Most changes aren't
significant enough to make a difference for me, personally. Sure, the
better spotlight effect in the SNES Cool Spot is nice, but that's not
enough for me to get a duplicate of a game I already have an enjoy as
is.

It's worth mentioning that many titles with the same name are in fact
completely different games on each platform. The one that comes to mind
immediately is Shadowrun, which is a linear isometric game on the SNES
and an open mission-based top-down game on the Genesis. So you can't
always go by the moniker.
