When a company starts taking their audience for granted, it's time for
them to lose that audience.

Sony's attitude sickens me.. the fact that they blatantly stole the
Wii's idea and Xbox Live pisses me off even more. I will never buy the
PS3. I bought the PS2 twice (old system and new system), I bought the
PSP, I bought the PS1 twice as well but never will I buy the PS3.

And if I do, it will have amazing games first.

That was probably correct, right up until the words left his mouth.

Please tell me you don't believe Nintendo and MS invented Live and sensor
controls. Variations of both existed on the PC for quite some time now.

I will definitely purchase one but I might hold off until several months
after initial launch. Hell Sony attitude is no different than the bullshit
Nintendo has been pulling for over a decade and it didn't stop me from
purchasing a N64 and GameCube. As long as Sony has games I want to play I
will keep purchasing their consoles regardless of their arrogance. What
company isn't arrogant? MS, please.

Dare i say those first 5 million would be people like Wankmerk if they
were buying it regardless of the games available.

The sad thing, he's probably right.

I had a coworker succumb to "gotta-have-it-itis" and actually bought a PS2
off Ebay for $700. No bundle, just the console. He bought a few launch
titles for it, and then....gave it to his cousin about 4 months later.

You know that the initial shipment is going to sell. Even at ~$800 (PS3 +
games + accessories) there's still going to be plenty of hardcore gamers,
gadgeteers, ebay profiteers, and insane parents to not only sell out the
first shipment, but keep demand sort of high until units start shipping in
decent numbers after the holiday. Granted, the demand isn't going to be
as high as it was for the PS2 or 360, but when your inventory is still
selling out, that doesn't really matter.

Then next year when manufacturing catches up with the initial demand,
we'll start seeing stock on the shelves. At this point, it'll be
interesting to see what happens. Will the PS3 continue to sell, or will
it just sit there - just as the 360 is just 'sitting there' on shelves in
Japan.

That is true but it's all in the implementation and execution. MS invested
in what Live needed to do and what functions people would want. Hopefully
Sony won't just copy it and actually add in some of the missing pieces.

Doug, trust me, owning something is no guarantee of it ever being used.
I have boxes of games I never play now, that I had to have at the
time, to have. A bunch are PS2 stuff in fact. It takes all of a trip
to a place to buy and 10 minutes or so to buy something.

You don't think bliggy actually BUYS anything, do you? He wouldn't have
the time to play as he's always too busy trying to singlehandedly destroy
the Xbox and 360 from the realm of usenet.
