"Yes it can. The Wii console can use all of the Gamecube controller
peripherals, that means from Wavebirds to Konga drums."

Not so sure.
The gamecube plugs are on the top of the Wii and the place is not very
large.
Perhaps you will need a cable extension to plug the receiver of the
wavebird.

I certainly don't have any hands on experience with the Wii, but I have seen
Nintendo execs quoted several times as saying the wavebird will work on the
Wii.
