In the old days this was true. Now it seems like most malware is done by
adults to make money. At least that's the impression I get. Obviously, I
haven't polled the authors of every piece of malware written in the last
yet.

Although I tried WMP out on Vista when I had it installed in one
partition, I've never used WMP since installing XP in 2001. I use Media
Player Classic and/or VLC <http://www.videolan.org/vlc/> to play media
files and Winamp for music.

Zeroing a drive gets it as close to factory-fresh as possible, that's all.
So if you've installed a brand new drive before, it's the same as that.

No, but he does live here in Dallas. Never met him though. I first

Well, you could check it against a known good MBR using a hex editor.
Otherwise the simplest thing is to boot to the recovery console using an
XP disk and issue the fixmbr command to write a new MBR.

Cats are more affectionate than they apeared to be. It took many years
before Ranmao began to like me, but you know, cats are cats. It's more
important to know he did like me at the end anyways (and that's all that
matters).
