I am going to do some upgrading to my PC which I run FS9 on. It
is currently an ASUS A7N8X-X with a Athlon XP 3000, 1gb ram. ATI
9600/256 PCI video, 17 in Viewsonic (CRT-type) monitor. I am going
to replace the video card and buy a 19 in LCD monitor. I have to stick
with an AGP video card, as it will be a long time before I could
upgrade motherboard and CPU. I like Radeon video cards. I might have
up to about $250 to sink into a new video card, maybe $500 for the new
monitor. What would you recommend?
The scenery has a terrible "flickering" effect when off in the
distance somewhat, looks terrible. And I have tried all sorts of
different video settings to no avail.

2 things...

1: Have you got the latest ATI drivers from www.ati.com ?

2: "flickering" can also be called shimmering, and is something ATI suffer
from when the card has no AF applied, Have you tried AF settings? In the ATI
control panel (reason for Q1) set at LEAST AFx2... I found AFx8 was the best
to stop shimmering, but that might be out of reach for your card (i had a
9700pro).

ATI
> 9600/256 PCI video,

Is that a missprint or do you really have a PCI card? I run the 9600 AGP and
FS rocks with it. PCI is too slow.
