Post subject: [vanilla] best race for a Ranger?

I have beaten the game twice already, with a Gnome Mage and a Dwarf Priest. I am now working on an Dunadan Warrior (around dlevel 55 or so), and I think after this I will try a Ranger.

But I don't know which Race to choose for my Ranger, what are the pros/cons of being Half-Elf, Elf, or Hobbit ranger?

I have played Dunadan, Half-Elf and High Elf Rangers. All of them are
easy to play.
Though Dunadan and High Elf have the highest experience penalty.
Elf has low CON, Hobbit has low STR. High Elf has see invisible and
light resistance which is nice to have in the beginning.

Dunadan has neither infravision nor see invisible, that can be a pain
with Smeagol, Ghosts and other invisible creatures if you cannot
achieve a meaning of see invisible early on.

It depends on your playstyle. Rangers for me are very much Warriors
with high bow skill and good magic skills. I prefer them tough.

Best is High Elf. High skills, relatively good Hit Die, see_inv. Second
best is IMO hobbit. Pretty much same as High Elf, but lower HP and
slightly weaker.

Kobold and Gnome are very good, at least as good as Hobbit. High
Stealth is always good, and RPois or FA is better than Hold Life. They
also have ~25 more HP, for whatever that's worth. I'd say my favorite
is Kobold, with Gnome and High Elf a close second. And I prefer NPP
Rogue to V Ranger.

In V none of this compares to HE advantages. If you're minimaxing, HE
is clearly the best race for a ranger (this is particularly true if you
dive- you can gain almost all necessary levels just fighting Light
Hounds for a long time). I don't think any other race compares to HE
for any mage casting class. The only defect is high XP/level, and XP is
not that important.

[vanilla] which of these two heavy crossbows is better - I'm not sure which of these is better to use: Heavy Crossbow of Extra Might +10, +18 Heavy Crossbow of Extra Shots +13, +11 I can see that the former has higher damage potential per shot, but the latter gets 2 shots per round.
