Can anybody tell me when ut3 (ut2007) is due out? I see Amazon says
March 31 but with no image/picture of the game for that item I am
dubious of such a release date.

They will most likely release a demo before the game ships for testing, like
they always do.

Then after the demo has been out for a month or two, they will release the
game.

So, we have at least a few more months before release. I'm thinking end of
July or maybe even August. I just hope they don't decide on a Christmas
2007 release date.

You are not alone. Have you ever noticed the various toys and goodies
stuffed into the endcaps of the aisles near the checkstands? We all do it
Wink~

BTW, your kids will remember this and hate you for it. You are causing them
years of therapy for not giving in to their every whim. What kind of parent
says "no"? Such strict parenting!

One of the computer gamer magazines has a spread this month on (what is now
called) UT3. It was six or seven pages of absolutely stunning in-game shots
and a preview of gametypes and how they were really going to focus on the
single player story. (Unreal has a single player? Smile IIRC it said that
60% of people who played UT2004 actually played it offline so they are
really going to pitch to them this go-round.
Oh, and everyone gets a "hoverboard" to get to the action faster because the
maps are supposedly huge. I'll see if I can find a link to the article. The
one glaring omission from the article was that there was no mention of a
release schedule at all. Keep in mind though that I was reading this thing
in Wal-Mart while my kids were trying to talk me out of a toy each so I
could have missed the schedule for release (but I did specifically scan the
article for it though).

Well if I click the amazon link there, then the ut3 link on amazon, it
shows:
"Availability: This item will be released on March 31, 2007. Pre-order
now! Ships from and sold by Amazon.com. "
So is there ANY chance that ut3 just might be released March 31 or is
Amazon just plain in error?

I don't believe that figure. They claim that they arrived at it by
comparing ID's seen online against ID's of known sold copies, but I
still feel it's got to be low.

Yeah, I felt a little ambiguity about that meself. However if you use this
NG as something of an informal poll, the average age of UT players is a lot
older than you would think. (SORRY GUYS!) Maybe this older demographic just
doesn't have the interest in the online hopfests that the younger crowd
does. I know I'll play on a particular server just to get the maps to play
offline. There's still a lot of cheating and some people just can't tolerate
that. Not to mention too that it takes quite some time to become proficient
enough to do nothing but respawn. It can be frustrating if you don't
perservere.

I'm not sure where you came up with that, but it's not official. There
is no official release date. Besides, no developer could fix a hard
release date that is more than five months out.

Having said that, a September release date probably isn't too far off.
If I were a betting man, I would probably go with late Oct. into Nov.

GoW's success took Epic by surprise, so a *lot* of talent has been
drained off to work on GoW2 (or whatever they decide to call it).
Microsoft is throwing money at them hand over fist, so UT3 has taken a
back-burner position. So not only do we get a late release date, but
I would guess that we will also get less of a game than we would have
if not for GoW. (Less of a game in terms of *who* is working on it.
The best talent is working on the successor to GoW.)

That's actually just about right for the holiday releases. The console ports
(or is the computer version a port from the consoles? Smile will probably be
later.

UT3 is pretty much done from what I read. There's some polishing to do, but
the core is able to be played. There's a closed beta being played now, it's
the same game you see the gamer sites being able to test. I wouldn't be
surprised if there is a demo forthcoming just because of all the press about
GoW. I'm sure they'd like to keep things on a roll.

And you know Folk, I sincerely hope that they capture that "fun factor" that
was in 99. 2K4 was a blast, and I play it often but there's just something
about the balanced gameplay and focus on characters in 99. I did also read
that the full suite of developer tools will ship with UT3, with the emphasis
on pre-built "legos" to save time on level design and skinning (much like
2K4's editor).

There is no chance of a 3/31/07 release. Zero. Zip. Nada.

No demo.
No announcement of release date from Epic.
No announcement of the game going gold (i.e. being sent to the DVD
makers).
The game website has only recently received any attention beyond a
holding page.

Most online retailers throw up arbitrary release dates on games such as
this. One claimed the game would be released in January... needless to
say the game isn't out yet. Do not rely on Amazon, Best Buy, Circuit
City, Gamestop, or whoever else to have an accurate date. Go to the Epic
Games website or the major preview sites to be kept abreast.

Your best bet is to check here:

>That's actually just about right for the holiday releases. The console ports

I don't think there has been any official word as to which platform
will surface first. They *could* hold all releases back until it's
ready for all platforms to avoid pissing anyone off. Which one is the
"master"? Who knows? There is certainly enough movement differential
between console and PC (no double-jumps, mouselook, etc., etc.) to
make porting from one to the other a difficult job. I have no clue
how they are doing any of this.

I've seen one fairly extensive DM sequence. But... and it's a huge
"but", you can get to that point fairly early on in the process. IOW,
you can build one map and get players able to move and shoot at each
other. That's still a *long* way from a finished product. Especially
since a completely new gametype (Warfare) has to ship with this thing.
Bot AI has to be pathed for *every* map in *every* gametype. They
have to develop a storyline for the single player campaign (something
they have never had to do before in UT). It's got to be play-tested
on multiple platforms. There's got to be just a boatload of stuff
left yet to do. And there's not as many experienced people working on
it as would have been true prior to GoW.

If it weren't for ONS, which is a total blast to play, I would
probably still be running a UT99 server. UT2004's puny weapons,
stupid bunny-hopping player movement and midget-sized player models
really turns me off. So yeah, let's hope the rumors are true and that
some of this stuff is fixed in UT3.

LMAO, our actual reason for such tactics is because the toyboxes and
child's room are filled with toys, what a spoiled child we have. The
wife recently filled a trash bag with stuffed animals for storage, and
our daughter never noticed the missing stuffed animals. Our daughter
is almost 3, and has mastered controlling her portable DVD player, on
which she watches her favorite shows *in bed* before going to sleep.
We are creating a little monster, lol.

Guess I never noticed all the toys near the checkout line, next time
I'll look around a bit more, haha.
