Well, perhaps you should think about it then.

You can't look in your settings, and tell?

not that i have found..
but then i could be blind and just not see it.
i always thought they only worked on s3 video cards..
but i never really looked into it a lot.

i did some tweaks a while back in the ini file after reading some
instructions on the net but the game never looked diffrent.

so i was hopeing someone on here could point to a setting that is
"the setting for hi res textures" since old ut stuff is harder and harder
to find.

any help is always welcome

Heh, the best way to tell is connect your machine to a server on the
internet running a standard map like "Face", and if the players seem
to have frozen bodies skating around the map, then you have the hi-res
textures. One of the severe drawbacks of the hi-res textures is if a
server is not using them also, the players "skate" around with frozen
body positions or in unanimated fashion, really funny looking.

I don't know for sure, but maybe you can tell by just looking at the walls
of some levels, the cd2 textures make them really bump-mapped like. I don't
think there's a way of switching between them either. Wish there was as I
use them and on some servers still get the ol' dead bodies standing up,
players skating around problems.

Which was always a show-stopper for me since I always played online. I
would only recommended them to someone who always played offline.

Could be it was like at first but they work just fine with current
OpenGL render engines.

To see if they are on run one of the original maps and if there is like
fx. cracks in concrete floors then you have them on - also look for a
setting in the UT settings-file. I think the key is something like S3TC
and it's in the OepnGL renderer section (if I recall correctly).

Let me know if details are needed and IŽll try to dig them up some where.

Kind regards
Bruno

Not all servers does that - not sure what makes the difference.

The difference is whether or not the *server* has the textures loaded.
If yes, all is good. If not, (and I would guess that the majority
does not have them loaded) then you get the weirdness.

And, since the dedicated server install package does NOT include the
hi-res textures, you will see nearly all servers run by game server
companies do not have the hi-res textures. I liked the hi-res
textures, they looked great, but unfortunately, I could not find any
servers that used them. One interesting aspect of this situation is
it seemed to me to be easier to shoot the "skating" players, lol.
