I fly only Virtual Cockpit... you fly the 2D ones? I don't think the 2D
bitmaps will resize properly.

That's precisely the problem. Found the "solution" on an Avsim forum
posting. (I sure like Google.)

Might not be able to resolve if you fly the 2D cockpits. VC works fine on
my machine.

Thanks, Guys. Guess the problem is my use of the 2D display. The 32" HD TV
works fine as a monitor but I guess my old Dell 3.2G single core with a
GF6800 card just isn't up to using the 3D display. Gets about 10FPS in 3D
and 15 or so in 2D. In fact, I was normally flying a Constellation that
doesn't even have a 3D cockpit. In exploring, I've discovered that most of
the default planes don't even have a 2D cockpit. Oh well, we get along and
hope for a wife that just insists that we get a better computer..... :<)

View this as an opportunity to edit the panel's configuration file so
that you can reduce the main panel to the proper proportions and display
another panel, like the throttle quadrant or GPS, beside it.

Nice idea. But how? I'm a total novice at doing this.

In FS 2004 there's a panel.cfg file within each aircraft's panel folder.
The panel.cfg files can be edited with Windows XP's Notepad
application. IMPORTANT; save a backup of the original panel.cfg file in
a different folder OR with a different name and/or extension so you can
revert to it if your changes don't work properly.

In the panel.cfg file there are "[Window##]" headings for each panel
(there will be a two digit number where the "## is).

The position parameter represents the panel's location when the aircraft
is initially loaded. The numbers represent a nine block grid like in
"Tic Tac Toe".

The size_mm parameter is pretty self explanatory.

The visible parameter controls which panels are visible when the
aircraft is initially loaded.

As I don't have FS X, I don't know how much of this procedure would
apply to it.

I'm guessing it means the size in millimeters, but it's still a little
odd. Do I start measuring my screen? However, based on the fact that
it says 640 and there are two "forward" files, one 640 and the other
1024, might it not refer to one of these?

FWIW, I don't understand how to make FSX resize the panel so that it
maintains the aspect ratio.

It appears to be very similar. The location of the file is different is
all.
