Just thought i would let folks know that

I was catching the boat from ratchett to Booty Bay...walked on the boat
and got trashed by a high level ??? horde..

the boat was still docked in ratchett, i died but decided not to res
yet.. it said i had 5mins to resurrect.

So i stayed dead on the boat...it sailed to BB then as it pulled in to
port i was miraculously returned to life !!

the horde standing next to me just laughed..

i strolled from the boat and continued about my business!!

no death run required..

ps wouldnt a death horse be a good idea ?

This rings true.

Another interesting point is that the boats can and do get overloaded.

Mass transfer of 40 plus lvl 60's heading to theramore can have some
intersting effects on where the boat ends up...i have been on it and
ended up floating inside dalaran ?

unable to move but able to converse about the view with everyone else
on the boat !!

I rode the zep from Org to UC as a lvl1 orc... just before the water
the zep vanished and I fell to my death.

Smile That sounds like the boats in Everquest. They kept dumping people
in the sea just as they zoned. You'd drown and you'd be stuck with
your corpse on the bottom of the sea (for those that haven't played it
- when you died in EQ you were sent to your home point alive but with
no gear - you then had to go and find your corpse and loot it to get
your equipment back) They were so buggy they eventually took them out
and replaced them with gnomes who would magically transport you to
where the boat would have taken you.

Actually, boats are strange anyway. They are in fact mini-instances.
Without loading screen, without any outside changing appearance that it
is an instance, but they are. And moveable ones, too. This also holds
true for the zeppelin, of course.

There's an odd exploit when you change your own data files, since the
path along which those transports are moved are stored on your client,
and are not server side-imposed. So you can actually manipulate the path
the zeppelin / boat is going, you log in, hop on the transport. You'll
be on the transport with any one else, but you WILL then fly/sail along
completely other routes than anyone else and once you hop off, you will
disappear from view immediately from the perspective from all others who
see you while you are on the transport (=in the instance). You will be
on your (manipulated) position while the others reach the normal
intended place.

Don't try this though, Blizzard knows about it and this will very likely
soon be detected and subject to an immediate and permanent ban.

Very strange but is just that way. So what you see might be just another
fun effect of zoning on a transport.

I was on the Menethil - Auberdine boat once, and when it zoned in to
Kalimdor, instead of being off Darkshore, it was in the middle of the
Stonetallon mountains! I stayed on the boat (I can't remember the
details now, it was some time ago), but I think it zoned out again and
then arrived at Auberdine.

I can concur this happens (getting automatically res'd at the other
side) - but what happened before was a bit weird. Sailing from STV to
Ratchet @ lvl 16 Smile A ~40 pally turned up on the dock and started egging
me on with emotes etc. He got on the boat with me and then as soon as it
started to move 'ka-poww' and I'm dead. He jumps off and swims back into
BB. Obviously the boat is not at that point under the guard of the
bruisers Very Happy

I saw something similar the other day - a level 60 Tauren was PvP enabled in
booty bay at the landing stage, taunting all and sundry while standing next
to the guards. When the boat eventually turned up we all got on, including
the tauren, and continued to ignore him. The moment it pulled away from the
dock a dwarf priest MC'd him and simply ran him off the side and let him
wait for the next boat.

boat raids = fun . if a horde dies on a boat he can just wait til it zones.

We get on in auberdine and go to menethil. We may go back and forth or
change to the other boat.

Why does this remind me of "Cptn. Placeholder". When I started playing
back in 2005, he was there in Auberdine and insta-ported you to Menethil
Harbor, where another guy did the same for the other direction. Being
new to the game I never thought about that until suddenly, I stood at
the pier and no teleport NPC was standing there and I wondered how the
heck I'm supposed to cross over to the other continent Wink

He even got a honorable mention at wowwiki:
