Post subject: question: unfinished business mod + illithilium
Archived from groups: alt>games>baldurs-gate (more info?)

I plowed my way through Chapter 2 on the weekend, finishing all the
possible quests I could think of...my characters are around level 12
now, more than enough for Brynnlaw.

I've installed the "ease of use mod", "improved irenicus" and "improved
demogorgon" patches, Baldurdash fixes, and Unfinished Business.

When I went to complete the Sir Sarles quest (fake illithilum & real
for the mace of disruption), i hit an 'unfinished business' plot twist,
where I need to rescue the duergar's brother in the temple of
Amamantor. Not wanting to waste a few more days with travel (I'm on day
42), I've proceeded to clear out the vampire nest in the cemetary
instead and proceed w/ Chapter 3.

I'm assuming the Sir Sarles quest is not time-limited; it should be
waiting for me when i return. Can anyone share with me how long the
brother-rescue should take me? Does it open up a whole new subplot, or
is it a quick smash'n'grab recovery? if its the later, I _might_
finished it before I head off to Brynnlaw.

I'm looking forward to getting Imoen back, as i have two scrollcases
with 20 scrolls each -- its an XP festival once she's rescued. Smile

IIRC it's not even a smash and grab,(well alright just a little) just go
back to the temple find his brother tell him it's clear, he splits, go
back to talk to them at the CC they will tell you what happened to the
Illithium, go retrieve it, a small fight nothing too big, and you're done.
game time to complete, ~48 hours game time, (12? hours to the temple and
back(each direction), 8 hours rest, a little run around time),
play time, 1 hour tops.

"two scrollcases with 20 scrolls each"

It may well behoove you to get a "bottomless container" mod. I don't
consider it cheating because I still use up a slot for each type to
keep things sorted out, but it goes a good ways to storing all those
little bits of paper.

I have been tempted by this but I keep coming to the conclusion that it is
actually cheating Smile

it's not cheating - it's keeping BG2 an adventure game, not an
inventory management game. It's up to you wether you abuse it by
throwing 50 suits of armor into the bag of holding, or just keep it
real by not having the gem bag fill up on 20 little stones.

Good point. I just don't bother with the cheepo gems at the moment and just
take the good stuff.

Given the low activity of this group, it doesn't matter. Seems
everyone is off playing Oblivion.

Ask away.

There are some quest events which only trigger *after* a certain amount
of time has passed, but very few which only trigger *before* a set time
limit.

I can't think of any, off the top of my head.

Thank you magnate

Also, what should I do with Yoshi, I hear there are ways to keep him,
which I want to, I have made him immensely powerful by dualling him to
a fighter...any suggestions?

Er ... before we can answer that question, you need to let us know
whether you want spoilers or not. Do you know the plot of BG2? Do you
know in particular what happens to Yoshi?

If you have not finished the game before, it's hard to give advice at
this point. Just carry on and find out ...

Yes, he defects. I know what happens to him, but I want to know how to
prevent it.
1. He's a great fighter in my group.
2. He's a great fighter for the opposition.
3. I don't want to fight him, he's funny.

Ctrl-Q? Explain this method to me in depth please.

Is there another way to do it without cheating?

I haven't tried this, but if you're quick enough drop him off at the
copper coronet before going to spellhold, have an open slot when you get
back. when you enter and he see's you he will die, but if you're quick
enough, you just Ctrl-Q him which force joins him to the party, he will
then die, but because he's 'part of the party' you can then raise him,
if he's not part of the party then he's permantly dead.
