Hehe. Anyway, can anyone explain to me how it is that I ran the patcher a
few hours ago, and it took some hour and a half, yet now, upon connecting
to the patcher again, I'm looking at another 40 minutes of downloads?

Patience just doesn't pay. I'm gonna have to set the patcher up to fire off
every hour on the hour next patch day. Maybe then it will be done when I
get home from work.

On DSL I'm still facing over 4 hours of download.

I didn't do partial downloads as the day progressed, while you did do one.

Right up until the patch is "over" they are still monkeying around with
it, changing stuff, uploading more stuff, and so on.

If it weren't for the fact that roughly 100,000 people just logged on at
the time of server up, like me, the remaining little bits of download
you still have to patch would probably have taken you five minutes...
thank your lucky stars its 40!

Oh, at one point my download time went over 25 hours. I hit cancel, and
then hit download again. Apparantly it had become hung on the file it
was working on, because after the kick in the pants, it settled back
down to a mere 3 hours predicted time.

The predicted time is also a lie, by the way, as its now down to under 2
hours... clearly their estimating algorithms leave a lot to be desired,
similar to how your withholding rate rarely comes close to matching your
actual tax due if your income fluctuates from week to week.

I got wav files as part of my early purchase last week.

I spent about 2-3 hours downloading today.

Yeah, something crashed around 10 PM Eastern US. Several posts on
the official forums mention the same thing.

I was unable to log on until after midnight my time; I finally got in,
said Heya to the guildmates, and logged back out.

My only observation; the character select screen is ugly. However, it
looks like we can now have 10 characters per server instead of 8.

Seriously? I did not know that. As if this alt-aholic needed any further

Ah, sounds like a typical expansion release day then.

Not quite. Apparently you're entitled to an extra two characters
if you have a Station Access account, and due to a bug they're
letting everyone have the extra two characters for now, but they
warn that they're going to take them away again so you shouldn't
use them if you're not entitled to them.

Speaking of the ugly character select screen, apparently in order
to make it that ugly they had to make it incompatible with the
"default_old" UI. If you get an all-gray screen when you expect
to see character select, you should look in your eqclient.ini file
and see if UISkin=default_old. If so, change it to UISkin=default.
I don't know if there's a problem with default_old for characters,
but it definitely breaks the char select window.

Bloody disgrace, that. I have no intentions of playing any other Sony
game, so no way am I paying for Station Access merely for two extra
character slots. I own all the expansions, and having coughed up
approx £20 per expansion (over £100+) AND subscribed for that last 4+
years, I think they should give the extra slots for free! I bet they
think people are so stupid that, after a few weeks/months of 10
characters, everyone will be so attached to their two new alts that
they'll be willing to pay them more cash. I think not, Sony.

It's really fuzzy and, as you two mention, it sure is fugly.

They did the same thing with EQ2 from the beginning. Signing up for Station
Access got you 2 additional character slots, only with EQ2 those slots were
all you got on all servers, as opposed to having that many available to you
on each server.
