Well it would be easy to pick on old crates for sheer ugliness but difficult
to pick a winner. Some of the French a/c pre WW2 (Amiot, Bloch etc.. ) are
unbelievable, so much for French flair in design.
Some Russian Antonovs are pretty ugly beasts but are nevertheless attractive
because of it.
My vote for a modern ugly plane would have to go to the Airbus 380. Bland
Ugliness beyond belief.
Just shows what happens when a commitee from 3 nations sits down to design
something.
I'm not anti Airbus by any means, I think the A340/330 etc are fine looking
examples.

The Caribou may be the grossest-looking plane. For years, I drove home
on the rode by KBFI. Some local College or restoration group had one
sitting outside of a hangar.
They shoulda kept a tarp over it.

Sorry....I have the winner!
http://www.airliners.net/open.file/0852448/M/
Not just the paintjob, but the aircraft itself is even uglier than the
world's ugliest dog. And that's saying a lot!
This is a plane that looks like I made it.....out of cardboard!

Damn Frank - you beat me to it!! I was going to go through my Oz slides
taken back in '84, when I saw one of these "things" for crop dusting (may
have been NZ, but I'm sure it was Oz). At first I wasn't sure it was even a
real airplane!! Without a shadow of a doubt the ugliest thing that ever
flew! Unless you could put wings on a Renault jeep...... d:->)) >> Stay informed about: what's the ugliest plane you've seen? |

The ugliest plane I ever saw took me away to get shot at...
The prettiest brought me back.
They were both 707s.

Most uncomfortable flight we ever experienced was in a Air Transat L1011
from Toronto - Gatwick
That was a rickety old bucket. I believe they have since replaced it/them.

I can understand why it's used to haul parachutists.
I would have no problems jumoing out of that kind of plane.

Hi Dave,
I have to agree with you. The 707 was a great plane. I went on
honeymoon with it.
As a European, I have to say that the Airbus A340 has even greater
looks!

I'm a vacuum-driven-gauge kinda guy and have no use for glass panels -
as an A&P, I've a habit of looking at aircraft from the maintenance
perspective...
One of my favorite quotes:"The more they overtake the plumbing, the
easier it is to stop up the drain."
Of all the heavy iron I've gotten to drive from the left seat, the 707
was the most amazing.
