Exactly! I too in the end hated every single inch of Cairo.

And in real life, you never goes back to locations where you've been before?

Mostly folks keeps complaining about that games are 'linear
corridor-shooters'.
The above didn't bother me a bit, and in fact helped building a chimera
of non-linearity into the game, as in that i(laura) am not always moving
forward, all the time forward, even if i in fact had to follow a 'path'
back and forth.

One nice thing about this was Lara health was restored
every time you crossed a boundary line, so it made it
easier to do a no health kits run.

I hadnt' finished TR4 yet because I'd gotten some half to 2/3 thru, upgraded
my system, and then it wouldn't run. Ok, so I got it to run months later
with a driver fix, and i'd lost my game saves. Gotta start over. I'll do
that eventually. Start over and finish it. I did finish 1, 2 and 3. Never
got far in Chronicles, it kept bombing out, crashing. And now I also have
TLA to finish, AoD to finish and Legend to ...nope, I don't even like timed
runs. That's sports, I'm into adventure Smile When I get through the game
proper, i'll use the cheats and get all those goodies.
I always felt that 1, 2 and 3 were simply great. I also felt 4 was, but
tedious in places. there are alot of great locations and scenery in these
games too. And music. Great scores.

I do backup my save-files now and then in games as i go along, should i
want to replay a particular segment at a later time. Or just in case
things like you describe should happen. And then there's the 'net where
you could find save-games for TRIV, even back then in the year 2000 if
you played it when new.

That is TRVI(AoD) and_or TRVII(Legend) you complain about? I haven't
played those. What the OP complained about in TRIV was having to do new
things but having to revisit earlier locals ... well, that's the way i
remember the game after reading what he described.

One thing i didn't like about TRIV was the forked path in one level so
that when after having played it, when i read a walkthrough to see what
i had missed, i discovered that there was a whole 2nd path i hadn't been
allowed to visit. And there is a similar thing in TRIII where you have
to follow a river, but have to choose which side. Arrgh, I like to
explore everything! But for cases like these, żain't backed-up
save-games just great? Smile

I have the Jeff Reid saved games for all of them stashed on a backup cd.
I'd just rather play the game through myself. There are instances where
having those is very handy.

TR6(AoD) is buggy, out of character, and incomplete. TR7 (Legend) is a
completely new kind of game. It's not like Tombraider at all to me. It's
now a console sports/shooter.

That's where the Jeff Reid saved games are handy. I dunno how he does it,
but glad someone did!

Now ...kinda...but...I thought Leg End was more TR than AOD was. Muchly.

But it wasn't *quite* what we know as TR. The biggest bug bears for me were
the lack of saveness, and the emphasis on boss-ness, and the biggest of
these bears of bugness was the weird freaky wtf is going on camera thing.
That was just BAD. Some of the things that would have been second nature in
TR 1-5...Hang on...I'm gonna have to do that again 'cos the camera turned
left and I was pointing right and now I'm jumping backwards?! Well
now...what the HELL is that about??!?!

The extra shooty-ness and the boss-ness I can kinda deal with, but come on
guys!! We've had our interface going on for years now. Why mess with it?!?!

I ended up setting the interface like Max Payne and that sort of worked but
it wasn't quite right, 'cos as soon as the camera angle changed....bleh.

I've honestly had more fun playing in the mansion pools/gym than I have in
the rest of the game. Oh well.

In the sense of locations and goings on, yes, Legend is mor TR than AoD.
Yet for all that bugginess and incompletedness of AoD, it was easier to play
than Legend. You could at least explore a little more with AoD than
Legend. It's early. I'll go back to bed and wake up again Smile

Yeah...the exploring is why we're there, for the most part. I found it real
strange to come to bits that Lara should have been able to climb on, only to
be blocked by the invisible wall of sector definition....

I didn't like the fact that I had to use both the MOUSE and the
KEYBOARD at the same time. Geez. Confuse the hell outta me, why
don'tcha.

Now, for the fun part: I've moved to a new apartment. Why is this
important? Because, for years I've had the computer at my bed, with
the mouse reachable by my left hand and the keyboard to the right of
it, on my bed. Now my computer's in a nook area across from the
washer/dryer closet, and the mouse and keyboard have switched places.
I'll have to retrain my hands all over again. Oy!

Things were simpler when all I needed was a keyboard and my right hand
controlled most of the necessary movements. Razz

It took my completely by surprise when Paul E Kiefer Jr typed:

I didn't mind that *too* much. Playing other games has kinda got me into
using them that way.

Hehehehhehehe! My boss is a 'keggy' (south paw?) as we say over here. When
you have to drive his PC it gets real weird having the mouse on the wrong
side!

Ah yes! Back to the good old days of Doom! Wink

I finished the mansion the first night I purchased it, had loads of fun
figuring out how to get all the durned bits in the gym. Then realizing
there was some sort of puzzle in the mansion (which turned out to be quite
a disapointment..) was the most fun I had in the game.

Otherwise it was like sitting in one of those self-propelled, self-guided
kiddie rides where the cars drive on a little road with a rail in the
middle to steer it. Shoot at the baddies as you drive by.
