What do you do with old games? - I would expect most of you probably sell back the games to places like EB (if they still do that) or ebay, but it just does not seem worth the money or time (I am at least a half hour drive from any PC game store). I hate to just give them away also..

Over the last year or so my son has bought some Steam games(downloaded not
actual CD/DVD's) which I don't play but were bought to go under my Steam id
and machine which he used. Now he is moving and would get his own computer
and id. Can we unregister or whatever and transfer ownership of the games
so they are gone from my id and now appear under his account only?
TIA.

That's probably a question best asked in the Steam forums unless someone
here knows the definite answer. I believe it could be done but there
was an admin fee for transferring ownership - never had to try it myself
so memory may be playing horrible tricks on me.

You can forget it: http://tinyurl.com/ybfphb (the part under "All
Other CD Keys" applies).

I kinda figured that would be the answer about transfers. For myself I
always bought the actual CD/DVDs for Steam games. Had he waited ie; for the
OrangeBox to come out he would of saved some money too on the original
purchase( a deal at CC when it shipped) but now will have to pay double...

If my son had bought the physical media there would be no problem. It could
be done but for downloaded software they won't. No big deal... my son has
to learn to not be so impetuous with his money!

Why not just have him use your account...?

How so? The problem would be virtually identical. You can move a game
to another account only within the first 90 days after retail purchase
of the game, as the link I provided indicated. After these 90 days, no
go!

OK maybe I'm dumb but I thought the account could only be active by one
person at a time. By chance if I were on playing EP2 and he signs on from
his machine and wants to play TF2 one of us is going to be denied or
possibly yanked or banned if we persist on playing from two active machines
using the same id.

I was under the impression that you don't use the account at all and
were trying to unregister ALL the games and move them over. You're
right, two people using the same account won't work if you use it at
the same time. SOL I guess Sad

Hope the games were cheap.

It didn't solve the problem anyways, but there is no way they would
close an account because they see two different credit cards buying
games, especially if it was obvious to them that Fred and his son are
related. That rule is mostly uninforced... too many situations where
they would be shafting innocent people (parent buying a game for a
child) and too few that would actually be people swapping accounts. If
the game was bought once and only one person is playing it at a time,
Valve has never had a problem with it as far as I have ever seen or
heard of.

That is not true. My friend purchased HL2EP1 and got stuck and sick
of it (he is very impatient!), so he gave me the CD. I installed it
and it
said (as expected) it was already owened by another STEAM account
and I couldn't play. I contacted them and sent them a scan of the
CD (or something, I think it was the CD) and they transfered the game
from his account to mine. It took about 3 weeks, but it worked fine.
