My nephew keeps his PS2 on the floor and was having a problem with it. He
comes to me with tears in his eyes, the way young boys will when they can't
play their video games, and says "I can't get it to turn on, you know how to
fix computers, help me!"
Fixing playstations is a little different than fixing PCs but I said I would
give it a shot. I checked all the connections and all the switches and
everything seemed fine, so I cracked the puppy open, my good if the ribbon
cable connecting the power switch hadn't come disconnected from the board.
I'm not used to working on game machines like this, what should I do, am I
hosed?

Youd be forever the coolest Uncle the kid ever had if you were to just go buy
him a new one or go to a place like Gamestop and see if they have some
refurbs.

Yeah, and whatever you do, dont lie about it. Kids know when they are being
lied to.

Is there not a connector on the end of this ribbon. I recall opening mine when the tray wouldn't slide and I had the same issue. I plugged it back in and it was fine. Also this is just a conductor. the goal is to alow flow from one point to another. If it snapped in the middle it could be put back together and any way as long as each devided part did not touch each other causing a short. I know this is a little rough but the ps2 is much easier to fix than most pc's... at this point you have nothing to lose.
