I was talking to some other gamers, experienced MMO gamers at the
local Game Stop this evening.

It was the general consensus that SWG on release day was just about as
good as it gets game wise.

I made the statement that if SOE were to say.... OK Folks, we screwed
the pooch and are gong to set up 20 servers back the exact way they
were on day one.... and start all over... I bet there would be TONS of
reactivations!!!

Just a though.

SWG pre-CU was most definitely the best game I've ever played...

Yup I agree,
It was the way the game should have been. SOE should have concentrated on
adding more content rather than screwing over the game engine. I wish we
could have things back the way they were but I cant see that happening.

I was the BEST EVER!

I really liked that it took about 3 months to begin to figure it out. The
skill point system meant that you could be ANYTHING! It was awsome!

lol . . .to answer the question . . . yeah . .i would re-sign :0)

As would I. The only thing they had wrong in the beginning was one
character per account as far as I could see.

Man, the concept of a world completely built by players..... Awesome.
The community! The immersion into the virtual world you could achieve
was awesome!

They really had the best thing going from day one as far as a game
system goes. It's really a text book case for what not to do with a
game. Sony just totally screwed the pooch and I don't know if I will
ever play any of their games online again!

I so miss the original SWG. It was my first MMORPG. The economics was
great, it you felt like building you could build, if you wanted to
fight you could fight, you could do almost anything. Right up until
the CU they were going in the right direction. I was already to begin
changing one of my favorite characters into a shipwright.

I moved on but haven't found anything that was as much fun or as
flexible.

Sounds wonderful, though I didn't play before March '04. It looks to me
like weapons and armor were much better balanced before doc buffs.

Now this is where I break the mood and start arguments by saying what I
would like in addition to the Launch-Day setup.

Mounts, and multi-user vehicles
Droid Engineer and Chef revamps
Instanced apartments in the NPC cities
Placing vendors in a shopping center in an NPC city
Politician prof: becoming mayor and city council of NPC cities
Jump to Lightspeed: but you have to *fly* to other planets, and there's
always a port official demanding that 100cr landing fee

The original game was great, but i remember feeling like it was
incomplete. I remember the hot topic on the boards right after launch
was a lack of content, and id have to agree with that. You found
yourself running around for hours grinding instead of feeling like you
were on an adventure.

That said the actual mechanics of the game were great. It was well
designed and fun, they just need to take the original game, add in more
quests (not those task things you got but actual immersive quests) and
some more group-oriented dungeon-like environments.

They should have worried more about adding content than changing
everything.

Well, the content was sufficent for the first month or two..... till
you got enough butt behind you to hunt Rancors. Then the game slowed
to a grind.... But it held my attention on the basis of establishing
my character as a part of the coimmunity. I was a resource farmer. I
build up a stock of harvesters for all the different resources and I
kept up with the spawns, mined whatever was hot at the moment and sold
it to a few good crafter customers and gave some to guildies... and I
ran a couple of crafters myself.

It was a complex socio-economic structure and I am STILL amazed the
"Harvard" researchers in sociology have not delved into the online
virtual societied yet. This one would have been superb for an indepth
study!

I will agree with you. There needed to be more content though.
Especially in the later game stages of character development.

Actially if you look up MMORPG and Sociology youll find a couple
doctoral thesis' written in the last 2-3 years or so. A even more
prominant area of study for these is Economics. A lot of people study
how the virtual economys work.

I wished I had the education to do one of those studies. I mean talk
about a PRIME area to get a rediculous and LARGE governmental
Grant!!!!

I bet you could get a million bucks to study the economy of some of
these games and how it evolves!
