I really like Tsunami (final version can be found on Spikes page -
most other versions have no sound).
Also the different tempest levels are avaliable in Tsunami - one of my
favorites !

Rockaroids hands down. Its available on Vecmania and All Good Things.
Two different versions.

>also.. is there a good tempest clone out?

There is supposed to be one out there. Wormhole is pretty damn good
and is available on the Vectopia cart. Abyss (demo) is on Vecmania
but it gets a little tiring just due to the fact that you can spin
around the 'abyss' holding down the 1 and 3 buttons down and effectively
defeat the game.

You will probably like Wormhole, though its not exactly a Tempest clone
like Abyss is.

I highly recommend all three of those homebrew carts. You can get them
directly through John @ vectrexcarts.com

Oh BTW, I should have mentioned that Rockaroids Remix will kick your arse!
I never make it beyond a handful of levels on it, as its really over the
top. The version on All Good Things may be a good play for you. Still,
get them all. Support John and his great contributions to the scene.

ok. just played wormhole on an emu.

wormhole == gyruss

plays good. gonna have to get that one.

tsunami is cool but plays really slow for me on the emulator. is it
like that on the machine itself?

i played rockaroids remix this morning. the asteroids were going
REALLY fast. so I can see how it would be tough to get through many
levels.

are there any multicarts available with all games on them?
links to them would be appreciated. thanks.

keith.

Keith,
might be worth purchasing a VecFlash cartridge from Richard H. His
website is http://www.vectrex.biz/
Then you can decide for yourself what games/binaries you want to put
on the cartridge - there are many binaries available and freely
downloadable, and you can start of with the games you have already
played on the emulator. If you go to GAMES on www.vectrex.nl you'll
see a list of binaries that can be downloaded. Using Google its
possible to find more.
You'll initially need a PC to program the cartridge (via USB) with the
game binaries, but once programmed, the cartridge then behaves as a
standard Vectrex Cartridge and there is no need to connect a PC. A
supplied menu program binary that starts everytime the Vectrex is
switched on or after reset, enables the user to select upto 31 other
binaries (each upto 32KB) stored on the cartridge.
Hope this helps.

yeah. this is cool.
i got my son something like this for his gameboy. holds like 10 games
with a menu at start up.

are there any games that don't work with this flash cart?

thanks for the tip. i was about to try to pick up a preprogrammed
multicart.

unfortunately looks like these are sold out right now though.

also.. since we're talking about USB to vectrex carts.. has anyone
made a cartidge to USB adapter that will allow you to play roms
directly from the computer onto the vectrex?

i know it defeats the purpose of it being 'portable' but i keep mine
next to my computer anyhow.

just wondering.

thanks.

I've got a prototype VecDev cart (again from Richard H) that enables
you to to this, but it is RS232 serial based - Because my computer
doesn't have a com port I simply use a USB to RS232 adaptor which you
can get from any computer shop, the transfer speed is slower but still
quite quick enough. - Its also very handy for developing software
programs as you can make changes to a program and download and see the
results pretty quickly..
I think if Richard H is reading this he can tell you about
availability, because its a new product.

Keith,
in answer to your question, all the binaries that run on an emulator
will also run on VecFlash. There are a few binaries which don't like
the menu select system of VecFlash, but these can be put through a
patcher program and then they will work. I've pretty much downloaded
all the binaries from the website I mentioned before and so far I have
only had to put Moonlander and the Test Cart bins through the patcher
in order to run them from the VecFlash cart.

Early next year, hopefully to coincide with Martijn's release of VecOS. The
final version will have a 64K capacity for bankswitch game dev.
