Probably everyone here has this game, in one version or another.

Yup. There were four titles, IIRC: EASTERN FRONT (I and II), WESTERN
FRONT, RISING SUN, and DIVIDED GROUND. Probably a couple of "Gold"
versions out there.

How can we be of service?

I have the Gold version of East Fron II installed right now. It is among my
favourite MP games, even if there are many who would disagree with my
opinion.

ooh, sorry , i thought the game is very old, so not much people play it anymore

The question is a technical one

I play the game very often, and i had a problem already a few years ago, i bought then an new computer with Xp on it, to play the game became then very difficult, because i had problems with teh colors, the game changed the colors of my whole computer, evrything get the armybrown color.
i solved this by using that comptability thing, so in xp you can play as on windows 95
But, one thing i couldn,t solve, and that was the icon (flagicon) where the soldiers, tanks etc. stand on, for an example for germany it is blue with the black cross on it, by me it is totally blue, and this is irritating.

Now a few weeks ago, I repaired my old computer, installed windows95 on it, to play normally eastern front.
But i was very surprised, because the icons now where still not normal.
Do you guys have an idea , of what,s going on, or what is wrong and how can solve this???

thank you

In this group, you'll probably find quite a few players; the campaign
series of games fills niche that isn't very crowded.

Are you using the original EASTERN FRONT? Or EF II?

Hank, you may need to paste the bases from your disc to your game
folder again.

Alternatively, some modified base sets can be found here (scroll down
to add-ons):

IIRC, in the original Eastern Front the bases with symbols were added with a
patch. Have you tried upgrading it to the latest patch? You can find it at

Thanks guys, the patch did it

i think i have the first one, the box says 1997

A patch i haven,t thought of that. because in the beginning when i bought it, it worked fine on my, now, old computer,
That,s because , i find it strange that it doesn,t work fine anymore

I,ve installed the patch and the icons are back.

I,ve played for years without the icons, never thought of a patch , i always thought that xp was the troublemaker

Thanks

hello,

The game works great again, i discovered some new things in the patch
thanks again.

I have another question for this game
When i bought this game, the game with 2 cd,s , one of the cd,s was an mission pack.
That mission pack didn,t work
Iknow, that i asked it in the store , why that second cd didn,t work, and they told me, that i must first play out , the normal game, and then i could install the second cd.
But what do i have to do then, play out an campain, i never have done that, so it could be

Do you guys have an solution for this??

and are there more patches, or mods , for this game???

and are there more games like this one???
(example : like ""hearts of iron"" i already have that one, not the first person shooters)

thank you

<Pedantic mode>
not in Tin Soldiers : Alexander the Great - though it took about 5
seconds for people to post/find the registry hack - the requirement to
play every scenario in the pre-ordained order was dropped in the
sequel.
</Pedantic mode>

Was it the "Fall of the Reich" mission pack / add-on for East Front
II ?

I've got that collecting dust somewhere so I could conceivably check
it.

Whaaaat? Their explanation is double-plus ridiculous. There isn't a
wargame out there were you can't start with the last scenario and work
your way forward.

> Do you guys have an solution for this??

What's the problem with the other disk? "Didn't work" is kinda thin,
troubleshooting-wise.

What about if you look at the disc in Windows Explorer? Does it show
files, directories, etc?
