My Steam-Savefile is broken - is there any way to restore it or regain
at least the monster memory? This is what happend:

When I exited the game (^X), I recieved a windows error message;
something like "was not able to write the complete savefile". To check
what might be lost, I restarted the game and loaded the one and only
savegame there was and should be. Everything looked fine, no error
messages on start, I had all my experience and inventory and everything
seemed just allright. So I closed again (^X). Now a new, slightly
different error message: "was not able to write savefile". Now there
were two "savefiles" in the folder, one named hehemehe (which is right)
and the other hehemehe.new. But neither of them can be loaded. It
always says "savefile broken".

I was playing on a memo stick, there was still enough free space left
on it, and it seems the stick is all right.
Has anybody an idea, what might have happend? Do I have to start a new
savegame?

Thanks for your help.

Hilke

If it's broken that's it, it's unrecoverable.

What class were you playing? I've had this problem with rogues - it was
down to a bug in the program (reported) so I just don't play them.

Yes.

In my case it was a scandinavian medium.
But it is not like the game crashed, the savefile only got messed up,
when I wanted to save and quit the game.

Ugh. Sounds as if it could be a computer fault. If it keeps happening
you could keep two save files, using one as back-up if the other is
corrupted, This is probably the only legitimate use of save scumming.
