Would there be any problems leveling your character in areas other than
where you were born? I have a NightElv Druid and have never been fond of
night elf areas...I prefer Stormwind, Wetlands, Westfall...etc. The only
thing that might come back to bite me that I can think of is L40 and Mount
buying. Will I have to have a certain rep in Darnassus to get my mount?
Thanks!

Having Honoured with Darn will get you 10% off.

Pretty common to see NE running around Elwynn forest actually.

The night elf baby areas (Teldrassil/Darkshore/Ashenvale) are dark and
depressing, have muddy green minimaps, pointless and incoherent story
lines and lore, and involve too much running around. Just imho, but I
don't blame anyone for ditching the scene. Even the undead baby areas
are more cheerful and fun in my experience... at least they have a sense
of humor, which the elves completely lack.

Well it matters, you could always turn stuff in for rep with Darnassus. I'm
not even sure if you need a certain rep with your "Home" area to buy a
mount, it might only be you need revered or waht ever to buy a mount from a
different area than your "home".

I like the elf starting areas, but I agree that the muddy green color
scheme is pretty tiresome.

I do like FedEx quests, given enough XP to justify the time, as I just like
exploring more than killing, and the elf areas are good for that.

LOL, I just did the opposite. I had my level 1 dwarf summoned to Teldrassil
and myself and two guildies leveled together. I found it a lot of fun. We
were twinked with bags and could buy the best armor there so it went pretty
painlessly. (See my post under Children's Week for more details.)

There is one problem you need to consider. You won't have easy access to a
druid trainer in the human lands.

I believe there is one in Stormwind. In the park district if I recall
correctly...

Hmm, I've always liked Teldrassil, Darkshore and Ashenvale, and didn't
experience them as depressing. They were a little on the purple side, but
the quests were nice, in spite of the long ways, and the storylines were a
lot better than the Defias-quests in Westfall. I also always thought BFD is
a nicer instance than the Dead Mines.

Just a matter of preference, I guess. Smile

I'd like to take a bunch of lowbies through Wailing Caverns instead of DM.
BFD is a little higher than DM, so not a direct replacement.

Blizzard should add some quests from SW and IF to drive lowbies to the
other instances.

One of the most fun (IMHO) to be had as a low level newb is to create a
lvl 1 alliance on one continent and walk him (or her) to the other
continent. People do it all the time. Consider it a right of passage.
Take your NE and walk to the human lands. So far I've leveled 3 or 4
NEs in Human lands a few humans and one pesky Dwarf Paladin in the NE
lands. Unfortunately (or lucky depending how you look at it) horde
homeland swapping is fairly easy. Most of the horde areas are easily
accessable via the blimp outside Org.

Go for it, you get rep with all Alliance factions when you do many Alliance
quests. I wanted to get Darnassus rep on my new Gnome mage, so I started him
in the Nightelf starter area (Aldrassil?) and have been doing all of the
Nightelf quests. I won't have the rep for a Frostsabre at lvl 40, but I will
almost certainly have the rep for a discounted Mechano strider. With some
cloth turnins at Darnassus, I should have the rep for a Swift Frostsaber by
the time I hit 60.

And yes, being a mage in Teldrassil is a major pain in the butt (no mage
trainers).

Yes it is "honored". After making the trip from NE to human lands I
always found it helpful to bounce back and forth doing quests in both
lands. That way you stay infront of the you vs. monster level curve
and you build rep in both areas. Keep in mind too - if you want your
NE to ride the horse, you will need "exhalted" human rep so don't skip
any of the quests.

Darkshore is the best alliance questing area from 10-20 IMO.
Just organize your quests so you do several at once, and the running around
(yes its annoying) isnt much of a factor.

One additional consideration. OP will want to do enough quests in
Night Elf areas in order to gain sufficient faction to get 10%
discount from NE vendors. (I believe that "honored" faction gets you
the discount; someone please correct me if I'm wrong.) This is
especially important for purchase of your mount at level 40.
