I get a stack fault when I try to use the CIV2 CD or the Fantastic Worlds CD
with Windows XP SP2. I copied over the two DLL files from an old computer
with Windows ME and I can run the game without the CD, but I like laughing
at the Advisors when they say everything is bullish, or build city walls
etc., it gives a stack fault in IR41.DLL at a memory location that changes
each time I try it. How do I fix the stack fault?

I have the latest Indeo codecs installed now and it still gives the stack
fault.

I have installed Civ II on several XP machines. I then installed
the last patch (I forget its number, 2.42 perhaps?). It ran fine
as is. One machine is SP2, the other is not.

No stack fault or anything.

I suspect that something was either lost or added in ME or in
the move. I'd do a clean install from a disk.

That didn't work, but teh conversion to Multiplayer Gold solved the stack
fault problem.
