Just curious what kind of hardware you guys are playing Oblivion on and
how well it runs.

Thanks.

Just replaced my old main system (HP xw8200, 2x XEON 3.6GHz/2MB, 16GB
DDR2, 4x Fujitsu MAW 300GB 10krpm U320 SCSI in RAID0, PNY GF7800GTX
256MB, Winxp x64) with a new HP xw9300 (2x Opteron 285 Dual Core, 32GB
DDR, 4x Fujitsu MAW 300GB 10krpm U320 SCSI in RAID0, PNY GF7800GTX
256MB). Oblivion runs completely fluid on 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 with
high details on both machines.

AMD Athlon 2200, 1GB RAM, and Radeon X800 all-in-wonder.
Performance seems good most of the time. Running around
outside and looking at things seems quite nice. The framerate
drops in the market place, but is still quite usable.

The only real problem is with combat outside when there are several
actors active. I usually just end up backing away from the fight and
letting the others duke it out, otherwise I end up hitting my allies.
The Kvatch fights were somewhat annoying this way, and a few
others. But since most combats are indoors, or one-on-one
affairs, I can't complain.

With a faster CPU I imagine the problems would go away. But
that'll need a completely new computer, so I'll wait a couple of
years.
