There is no known compatibility issues with Ridge Racer and the PS2. I just
popped my old Ridge Racer disk into a slim-line PS2, and it works fine for
me. So it is most likely a problem with the disk.
Are you also having problems with CD-based PS2 games (most games after 2001
are DVD-based, but occasionally companies will use CDs, such as in Lego Star
Wars)? I know that many people had problems with CD disk-read errors, but
those were on the old model PS2s, not the slimline. And if that was the
case, your PS2 wouldn't be reading the disk at all, rather than treating it
as an audio disk. You said the disk was black, so I am assuming it isn't a
bootleg/pirated copy. It isn't an import or anything either, is it? Does
it say "NTSC U/C" or "NTSC J" on the front?
Certainly you must know someone with a PS One or PS2 who could check your
game out on his/her system.
