When you load up the game you have 3 neighbourhoods to choose from;
Pleasantview, Strangetown and Veronaville. Ever since seasons neighbourhood
was installed it was put where Pleasantview once was and all of the others
shifted across likewise. I play with Pleasantview and Veronaville most of
the time. Is there a way to make Strangetown move to the 4th place so that i
have Riverblossom, Pleasantview, and Veronaville as my first 3 to choose
from? I dont want to DELETE Strangetown, just shift the location as its
annoying to have to scroll to get to Veronaville.
Also a much more pressing question:
I have a wide screen lcd (lucky me) and while TheSims2 has 'adapted' to it
by changing the resolution, some things are just not quite right. For
example in the Create Sim function the sim is to the left and the menu is
right in the middle, so that the menu actually covers about half of the
sim!!!! The menu is slightly transparent, but that doesnt help at all. I
have to use the nearby mirror to clothe a sim as i can only see HALF of the
sim from the front, so i have to spin the sim around so the front faces away
from me and the mirror helps a bit. It gets annoying as you can only really
deal with the Sims right hand side when creating their face, and when the
camera zooms out to clothe the sim you have created a monster!!!
Is there any way to modify these two problems?
thanks for your time,

The only way I know of to do it is to go into My Documents/EA Games/The Sims
2/Neighborhood. You will see folders named G001, N001, N002, and N003.
N002 is Strangetown. You will have to rename that folder to a number higher
than N003 - say, N004. Now you must go inside that folder and rename every
file in every folder and replace N002 with N004. This takes a while to do
manually, but it can be done faster if you have a file renaming program that
can change the string every place that it occurs. This should place
Strangetown after Veronaville.
Another option is to simply remore the N002 folder and place it someplace
else within My Documents (or park it on your desktop). That will remove
Strangetown without deleting it. You can put it back anytime you wish to do
so.

Someplace under Game Options you should find a place to change the
resolution of the game to fit your widescreen monitor. I believe it is
under Video options.

I can't help you with the screen issues but I can with this.
You need to rename all the files in the Strangetown folder and the folder
itself to a higher number with a batch renaming programme like CKRename
http://musicsucks.com/CKSoft/CKRename/ There are hundreds of files and you
need to rename them all so rather than sit there for hours doing it one file
at a time it's easier to batch rename. The programme is really easy to use.
Set Change filename to "none", then put N002 into the String Substitution
Replace and N004 (or higher, depending on whether you have any custom hoods
installed) into With. Do this for the main Neighbourhood folder, then
Characters, Lots, Storytelling and Thumbnails.
Strangetown is N002 and Veronaville is N003. If you rename Strangetown to
N004 or higher it should move along to a later spot in the display.

Fantastic, this is an ideal simple solution! Thank you.
This is the problem i face in terms of the menu and it getting in the way.
http://www.imagehosting.com/show.php/651786_coverface223.JPG.html
I have tried changing the resolution, and even going into the graphics file
and changing the max resolution to 1920x1200, but that only made the colours
nicer and everything smaller, but didnt help in the create a sim function
much at all. Look at how much room there is to the right of the face! They
couldnt have possibly put the menu there? Grrrrr
I will look into CKRename when i get home later. Might be worthwhile so i
dont have to move the folder every time i want to play strangetown (though i
almost never do).

Yes, I've seen that. Never quite as bad, but I have a similar problem on a
'normal' screen with a higher resolution. It's just poor thought on EA's
part. As for a fix all I can suggest is one of the CAS camera modifiers that
allows zoom (and pan out) at all stages of the creation.
Dear me, I can't remember the name of the mod creator. I'm sure somebody
will chime in with his name. He's a rather well known camera modder. Or you
could do a search at MTS2 for camera mods and see what each different one
offers.
It isn't much of a fix, or even a patch. But I think that it is all that is
possible.

His (her? the name kind of sounds like a "him" to me LOL) cameras are pretty
good and I think quite a few people use them.

That's the pigeon. I'm sure one of his changes enabled CAS zooming and (what
ever the equivalent for 'out' is) at all stages of the creation process.

Thanks to all of your responses.
The mod works to some extent, i can now see the face in the create sim mode,
only the left ear is cut off by the menu, but the mod worked great! I can
now zoom out further than before, its actually quite handy.
Thank you.

Like I said, not as good as if they had actually made the game properly in
the first place (I for one would like to open more stats windows at a time.
I have the space but, of course, no option) but better than simply living
with it.

Try Adjusting your Refresh Rate. I had a similar problem and that helped
mine. try setting it to 60Hz.

I have a wide screen (16:9) 27 inch LCD to play sims 2 on.
I actually get the sims (and other games) to wide view and scaled correctly
by tell my games to be set at:
15:9 you might try that. For the 1600 x 1200 it is actually the 15xx x something
I have the sims 2 up on a regular 1280x1024 lcd, so I can not select the 27" settings.
But it is something like 15xx x 1300 - one setting lower than what you would think 16:9
would be.
This works for all games and the PS2.
Hope this helps,
Frettesche

: When you load up the game you have 3 neighbourhoods to choose from;
: Pleasantview, Strangetown and Veronaville. Ever since seasons neighbourhood
: was installed it was put where Pleasantview once was and all of the others
: shifted across likewise. I play with Pleasantview and Veronaville most of
: the time. Is there a way to make Strangetown move to the 4th place so that i
: have Riverblossom, Pleasantview, and Veronaville as my first 3 to choose
: from? I dont want to DELETE Strangetown, just shift the location as its
: annoying to have to scroll to get to Veronaville.
:
: Also a much more pressing question:
:
: I have a wide screen lcd (lucky me) and while TheSims2 has 'adapted' to it
: by changing the resolution, some things are just not quite right. For
: example in the Create Sim function the sim is to the left and the menu is
: right in the middle, so that the menu actually covers about half of the
: sim!!!! The menu is slightly transparent, but that doesnt help at all. I
: have to use the nearby mirror to clothe a sim as i can only see HALF of the
: sim from the front, so i have to spin the sim around so the front faces away
: from me and the mirror helps a bit. It gets annoying as you can only really
: deal with the Sims right hand side when creating their face, and when the
: camera zooms out to clothe the sim you have created a monster!!!
:
: Is there any way to modify these two problems?
:
: thanks for your time,
