| I just began the game. Need to kill 12 slaughterfish. I can find the
icon on the map showing where one is, but how do I get to it? If I wade
into the lake, I drown very quickly. Can I somehow pilot the boat and
row to it? I cannot bring up the cheat menu with the ~ key--it does
nothing (I'm using Vista, guess that negates it somehow?). How can I
nail these blasted fish?

You have several options dealing with underwater enemies. You can use
a water breathing spell/potion/item to let you stay down for longer,
you can use a water walking spell/potion/item to stay on the surface,
or you can just swim near the surface and surface often for air. At
the start of the game, most people use the third choice - and this
quest rewards you with a water breathing item, so you'll never have to
worry about it again afterwards.

I favor water walking as the fish are very tough opponents in the

Here's one way.
Swim out to fish.
Dive...and swat it with sword.
Swim back to shore and fish will usually follow, stopping just off shore.
From shore, you can potshot it with arrows as long it doesn't move off
[which it usually won't].
The whole slaughterfish affair was sort of tedious if you ask me.
Or you can wait until you obtain water breathing [rings, spells, scrolls, or

There're some very shallow parts around the lake... water is covering
the sand so slaughterfish can swim there, but so shallow that your
character can stand.
Find one of those spots, and lure a slaughterfish there. Then you can
dart forward for a quick attack, and dart back. You have all the time
you need to heal if you're badly wounded.
If you lure it close enough, it will become stuck - you can stand
there and attack it, but it won't bite back. >> Stay informed about: slaughterfish? |
