Wow ! I didn't know that, are you sure ?
Man, I will play way more often with aggravate in that case.

2 things. If you read a scroll of Aggravate Monster, it will wake anything
within earshot (20 grids IIRC), and haste anything in your line of sight. If
you wear some equipment that aggravates, it will just have the waking effect.

Be careful, aggravate is really really dangerous. Most of the time, it
is possible to achieve high enough stealth to wake very few monsters,
and then pick your fights. With aggravate, this is not an option, as
everything will be coming at you.
Think about it : once in a while, everyone has to teleport out of a
fight. Would you rather fall into the middle of a group of sleeping
hounds/demons, or into the middle of a group of awake ones?
In my opinion (for what it is worth), aggravate is ok when you know you
can handle nearly everything in the level you are in. That way it
decreases the chances of something really nasty coming at you, decreases
the need for you to teleport away, and if you have to, and teleport into
something nasty, may give you one turn to survive it.

Yeah, I tend to check for traps & monsters the moment I am on a new
level. From there I always head to the nearest stairs and use those
stairs as my base. From there I do excursions into the dungeon,
cleaning out panel per panel. It is rare that
a - I need to teleport
b - I teleport into uncharted territory
I just never wore aggravate ( in a permanent fashion ) for the speed
bonus it would give the other critters. I do like how in some variants
aggravate overrides AI so that monsters will lign themselves up in a
corridor

1) Hounds never sleep. (replying to Remuz)
2) [V 3.0.5] I was just recently wearing an aggravate artifact, and it seemed to
change the path-finding behavior. It looked like the monsters were no longer
smart enough to go around things and were trying to come at me via a straight
line, or something like that. It's really noticeable when you're dealing with
a room full of stuff like a troll pit or a zoo. Without aggravate, they start
coming out the door sooner than with it.
3) You can get into a bad spot not only when you teleport, but also when you
recall in. >> Stay informed about: A simple question (Vanilla) |

In spell or by monster (it shrieks for help) it wakes up and hastes all
monsters in LoS of you. If it is in item it wakes up all monsters as
soon as you enter in their detection range.
