Not one player at Chelsea, one of the richest football clubs in the world,
agreed to contribute any of their wages to the May Day For Nurses campaign,
where footballers are asked to give a day's wages to hard-up Nurses. Of all
the 556 Premiership players asked to help with the scheme, only 225
contributed. (News of the World)
if this is true then we really do live in a selfish world. what is one days
wages to these players!! >> Stay informed about: sickening |

Exactly. If one day's wage is £5000, then £5000 is worth the same to them
that it is to you and me. If they don't want to give up 5k to give to Nurses
then fair play to them I say.
Its still a 5th of the weekly wage - if some charity type person came to
your door and asked for a one-off donation to a charity you might consider
it. If they asked you to donate exactly 1/5 (thats 20%) of your weekly
salary, you'd tell them to bolt! (I would!)

I dunno, I mean it should be voluntary to donate, and people should not be
made to feel bad (no matter what they earn), if they dont want to.
But it does remind me of the old bible story, where a rich man gives a bag
of gold to help the poor, this gold means nothing to him. An old woman
gives her life saving to the poor, 5 copper or whatever...basically she's
giving more, in comparison. Sure as hell 5k means more to me than it does
do a 100k a week footballer.
Which is why they asked these rich guys, I am sure if I earnt 5k a day, I
wouldn't mind paying one day out of my years wage to charity, but I wouldnt
want to feel like I had to. >> Stay informed about: sickening |

there's a slight difference between someone earning 6million a year,
and someone scraping by on 6 thousand a year though.
there is no premiership footballer who should be unable to do without
one days wages a year.
i have to admit it's quite shaming, and shows how greedy they can be.
iirc, none at newcastle gave up any money either, just glenn roeder
and the coaching staff.
