OK, had some sims go out for dinner in a casual group to Crypt O'Night Club
in the Maxis made Downtown. They order food, the waiter comes over with the
big silver dish, does a flourish as she presents... absolutely nothing! My
sim and her companions continue chatting and sipping water while the waiter
goes off to serve more deserving customers who seem to be getting their
food. And so my sim and her companions continue getting ever more hungry and
thinking that the damn water is doing nothing to satiate them. So they call
the waiter over to order again. Rinse and repeat with the flourish and
dispapearing food while the sims continue to plummet towards hunger
desparation. And the bill just keeps on climbing every time they order their
non-existent food.
I think my most recent problems are a result of the new patch or something.
Never had these problems before (like the reluctant shuttered windows and
disappearing food), then did yet another clean install, patched with the new
patch and hey presto I'm having problems! Unless it's the telephone hack
(Maxon, you pointed me to it so it's whatever you use) or a new download...
Most recently I downloaded a bunch of walls and floors from Marina's Sims 2,
which was recommended either here or over in binaries a couple of months ago
for Victorian themed home stuff and I think some more walls and floors from
MTS2 (I think it was from there, it was the "recovered Maxis" ones or
whatever they're called). Anyone else have problems due to Marina's stuff or
those "Maxis recovered" walls and floors? I might take out all the downloads
and see if my shuttered windows start cooperating and/or my sims get served
in restaurants. As I haven't really played any of the families since the
clean install I'm quite willing to do yet another clean install and this
time only patch with the old patch if people think this is the best thing to
do in this situation... >> Stay informed about: Non-service of food at restaurant |

I've had the problem of no food being served as well.
It's happened after someone died in a kitchen fire in the place, and
somehow screwed up the lot, as the cook just stirs and stirs but never
finishes food. (The camera angle is always messed up there due to it
zooming in on the fire etc. A sim died on that lot but no grave/urn was
ever found and I'm not sure why. He died when the cook somehow started
a fire and he was trapped in it. The fire dept couldn't help because
his car was out front.)
Another time, it was because I went in and tried to fix the place up
etc, and forgot to leave proper counters and work areas for the cook
etc.
So maybe go into it and give the cook more room to prepare and set
meals? >> Stay informed about: Non-service of food at restaurant |

I assume you mean Pescado's phone hack - I can't see how it would interfere
in that way. With stuff on the phone menu, yes, but I wouldn't have thought
the behaviour of waiters had anything to do with it.
or a new download...

I've used Marina's stuff since Sims 1 days - I've never had any trouble and
it's really nice stuff too. I have quite a bit of the Victorian stuff, a
lot of the planters, various objects and roofs. No problems.
It might be worth going over to MATY and seeing if any of them have any
ideas. They're usually better at that sort of thing than people on this
newsgroup. You could try an experiment with your Downloads out (make some
new sims in a test neighbourhood) - if it's still happening, you can be
reasonably sure it's the game and not Downloads though you might also try it
with debug mode switched on and see if you get an error message. Ummm,
maybe try replacing the restaurant podium and cooker on your Downtown lots
and see if it resets - sometimes that helps.
Best wishes

The problems with placing the windows is one I've had since day 1 so I don't
think it has anything to do with either patches or downloads. But the
disappearing food is one I've not heard of before. Have you ever downloaded
new food? Perhaps the food that they ordered was replaced with a downloaded
food that won't show up Personally, I've never been tempted to download
either food, majors or careers because I've been afraid it would screw up
the game royally.

I don't think that walls or floors would affect the game play. I think it's
more likely that you've managed to download a new food file somewhere. Have
you checked your downloads folder with CleanInstaller to make sure you
haven't?

I just had another thought.....
Perhaps someone in the group has been to that restaurant before and skipped
out on a bill and it's the management's way of getting back at them. The
part you mentioned about the waitress dropping the food on the floor is
written into the game code for just such situations. Or perhaps they just
got a really lousy server. It could be a challenge that is built into the
game so that you have to pay the bill for the non-existent food and then get
the group to another restaurant and get them fed before they keel over.

The new patch for OFB does seem to screw up restaurants somewhat. Though in
my case, and others (there is a thread at More Awesome Than You about it),
it seems to screw up the seating - sims won't sit at tables any more, only
counters, unless there is just tables. >> Stay informed about: Non-service of food at restaurant |

I have had that happen, even before the latest patches. I always thought I
might have something to do with an object being on top of certain types of
tables. Maybe they are too small for a candle/ light and a plate of food.
I always noticed it happening in the Cryptonight club, on the back patio. I
just always had my Sims skip out on the bill. It is quite easy to skip out
there.

I think I know your problem and what causes it , I also know the answer
You see in this Downtown restaurant the tables in the back has on them
the candles object "Anytime Candles" which is a decorative object and is
an object prior to Nightlife . So when put on a table it makes the table
unusable for eating !! it's not like the small romantic lamps that came
with nightlife and allows you to add them to a table and still be able
to eat.
So to make long story short . Enter that lot from the main screen and
remove the candles from the outer tables (replace them with nightlife
small lamps if you need)and your disappearing food problem will end !

Thanks BD! Sims Lover just said the same thing and I think this just may be
the problem.
I suspected the phone hack and new downloads because I didn't have them
before the clean install. This outing to the restaurant was the first one in
the game since the clean install so it wasn't due to death or anyone
skipping out on a bill, etc. It had to be either something to do with the
game or with the downloads.
So I'll change the candles to something smaller or get bigger tables and
hopefully it will fix itself.

Bingo! That's where my sim and her party were seated - on the back patio.
I'll replace either the tables or candles and give it another go.
Thanks
