Ok, I took all 'your' advice and decided to play on the US servers. For
the minute I'm starting on classic - if I get the bug back I might try out
ToA later since I left before that ruined the game for me. (It was hearing
bad things from other people that delayed me coming back so long).

Gareth is *hideous* - there were around 1300 people on it last night and
it was so laggy - it took three or four tries to open my inventory.

I tried Ector too (since theres hardly anyone on there by the looks of it)
- that one was a tiny bit better, but still fairly laggy.

I've got a cable internet connection (blueyonder) and I can play most
games without lag problems - even stuff like planetside on the US servers.

Is there a good 'fast' (preferably classic) server for UK people, or are
they all laggy? Or, are they normally smooth as anything, and last night
was just a bad night?

Thanks

Played for a bit on both Ector and Gareth last night, can't say I
noticed any lag (was downloading a torrent in the background too!)

You will probably notice a bit in the way of lag for the next few days,
given the imminent release of Darkness Rising and the number of people
who will be trying to grab not only the 1.80 patch but also downloading
DR as well.

Being in Australia and playing on the US servers we find that lag can
vary a great deal. At the moment we are suffering mostly in Cammy (yes,
I play Alb's) as all the new artwork and additions seem to be there but
hidden, this should clear up over the next few days I hope.

Normally we are not on during peak US times, so lag is not as much of an
issue except for weekends where we can be playing during those peaks.
Depending on where you are and what you are doing, the lag can be a
nightmare or managable. I've found that turning down graphic options
within the game and removing things like graves, player names, spell
effects, etc can reduce the stress on the systems and improve the
performance. I'm running on a cable connection with my wife who also
plays on her PC and we cope pretty well most of the time.

They're distributing Darkness Rising via Bittorent, that's where I got
it from late last night. Not sure if it's available through a normal
download.

It will be available as an ftp sometime today in addition to being
available via bittorrent.

It will be available from 2 locations as a download (Camelot Herald and
a second website that I just can't remember).

Don't normally have an issue with lag, and I play Gareth and Merlin. Cammy
seems a bit clunky just after loading, but admire the graphics for a moment
and then it settles down.
