I by driving around the puddle, I don't exhibit nor do I have respect for
them. I exhibit good manners. Good manners have little to do with respect.

No, they deserve to be treated "correctly" (with good manners and
consideration). That's not respect. Respect has to be deserved, one way or
another.
Developing a character to 60+ would in my book, and in context of the game,
definitely command respect. Buying one - in itself - wouldn't.
