Char: 60 night-elf druid
Rank: Knight-Leutenant
Mount: Epic
Server: Laughing Skull (PvP)

What do you all think he is worth?
My account is tied to my credit card.
How do I "untie" it and sell it?

Thanks!

Crazysue,

Despite what the people on eBay claim to do to give themselves a sliver
of legitimacy, the jury's still out on whether or not its legal. I
don't claim to side with Blizzard or with the sellers but, the whole
aspect of selling virtual goods is one that even the judicial system
hasn't touched on.

Having said that, Blizzard will still terminate your account if you
transfer it and money exchanged hands. They have a very strict EULA and
TOS.

You can sell the 'time invested in the game' and thats what those Ebayers
usually do. Just search on ebay for 'wow account' and you'll see how they
creatively surcompassed Blizzard Eula by just selling their efforts.
So its possible, and people do it.
How to untie your cc, I know not.

As has been pointed out already, it's a bit of a morally questionable
activity and frowned upon my the majority....

that aside, there are sites out there that do purchase accounts (google for
wow account buy or something) and also eBay - how much? I don't know - check
ebay for existing account sales for an idea. Out of sheer curiosity after a
guildie pointed out the site, I tried checking to see how much they pay for
an account with 3 lvl 60s on Arathor would sell for and it was the same as
an account with 1x 60 - I suspect those accounts will be used by gold
farmers or something but it was a moot point for me anyway - I've been
playing too long and have too many friends on the server to just allow
another to possibly destroy my character's reputations. When I quite
playing WoW, my account will quit right with me.

OK, I'm being all moral etc again (/me slaps self) - but as far as untying
your CC goes.. I haven't checked but isn't there a way of changing your
payment type in the billing options? Possible change it to game card before
selling?

Lastly, are you really that desperate for cash? :p

Short answer is you can sell your account but not your char on its own.

Thanks for all the advice.
Let me put it this way:
I want to stop playing the game.
It seems a shame for a character I put so much work into to just disappear.
I heard of people selling "their time put into building a character" on Ebay
so I thought, "Hey maybe I can make up for like 0.001% of the many hours I
put into building this character and at the same time allow someone else to
play him."

So... I looked on Ebay and I found people "transfering" their accounts and I
also found this:

Disclaimer: According To Blizzard's EULA: "You may permanently transfer
ownership of the Game and all parts thereof, and all of your rights and
obligations under the License Agreement, to another by physically
transferring the CD-ROM, all original packaging, and all Manuals or other
documentation associated with the Game, and by removing from all of your
home or personal computers and destroying any remaining materials concerning
the Game in your possession or control, provided the recipient agrees to the
terms of this License Agreement. The transferor (I.e., you), and not the
Licensor, agrees to be solely responsible for any taxes, fees, charges,
duties, withholdings, assessments, and the like, together with any interest,
penalties, and additions imposed in connection with such transfer."
Restriction: By bidding on, inquiring about, or viewing this auction, you
are stating that you are in NO way affiliated with Blizzard Entertainment or
any associated entity. (Not sure why this is necessary, but I'll include
this restriction anyway.)

Disclaimer: World of Warcraft is a trademark of Blizzard Entertainment. All
characters, items, gold pieces, or other intellectual property in World of
Warcraft are the sole property of Blizzard Entertainment. This auction is
not for the ownership of their intellectual property but rather for the time
spent working on these characters and acquiring items. All references to
“the character” or “the characters” or “the account" are indicative of my
time spent on leveling the aforementioned characters

They can write everything they want into their EULA, but that doesn't
make it right. Many clauses in EULAs won't stand up in court.

Of course that won't help you if your account gets suspended, and who
would want to go to court to reclaim his account?

Nor does the fact that some people don't like or agree with those
terms automatically make them wrong. Every single player explicitly
agrees to the terms before they can play. Nothing is compelling anyone
to play, and WoW is certainly not a necessity to any human or
constitutional rights. Anyone who stands on a soapbox screaming "The
EULA is wrong", and yet explicitly agrees to abide by it, has an
immediate credibility problem.

> Many clauses in EULAs won't stand up in court.

That gets bandied about quite a lot, and it may even be true. However,
the cases where anyone has taken a EULA to court are quite few.
Further, there are a LOT of legal jurisdictions which intersect the
WoW player base, and a court ruling in one very probably isn't binding
in another.

Bottom line - it's their game, their world, their rules. If you don't
like any of that, you don't have to play. You may vote with your feet
and your wallet and take your gaming dollars elsewhere.

well if the TOS/EULA is not legal or has conflicts with the
law/constitution, then doesn't matter users agree to it, it will be
void in court.

for example, person A can write contract of agreement to kill B (for
whatever reason), and B agreed and signed, does that mean A can kill B
now? hell no, because the contract itself is in conflict with the
law/constitution, so it won't stand in court, and will be thrown out.

Your far fetched example has nothing to do with the EULA and TOS at
hand. There's nothing explicitly illegal with Blizzard's EULA and/or
TOS. The only issue of debatable legality is the ownership of the
characters and Blizzard explicitly claims ownership prior to you
signing up for the game.

*nods* You have it down. You have nothing to lose and some money to
gain. Caveat emptor but don't deceive the buyer and you should be fine.

Its the people who argue that EULA and TOS is in violation of their
civil rights that bug me.
