The extra talent points sound cool, but let's get right to the real
issue: fishing! Will 300 remain the level cap for these so-called
"secondary" professions? Will I be able to fish the hell out of some
Outland as soon as I get there, or will some horrible dripping-faced
Draenei have words of wisdom surpassing even Nat Pagle?
Have any new fish types been leaked? Or fish recipes? Or alchemy
recipes you need the new fish for?
Fish. >> Stay informed about: secondary talents in the expansion |

I haven't seen any info so far on any of the Professions in the
expansion.
The only clue is that they recently added things like Elementium Ore
(Mining) and Nexus Crystals (Enchaniting) to the game. I'm betting that
these become easier to get in Outlands, along with other Mats used by
Professions up to 350 (70x5)
I'd be shocked if Fishing wasn't included along with First Aid and
Cooking. >> Stay informed about: secondary talents in the expansion |

I wonder if Gnomes will be able to level Engineering up to 365, and Tauren
Herbalism up to same?
I ask this as a 315 engineer now... >> Stay informed about: secondary talents in the expansion |

Me neither.

Umm, Elementium Ore is not mined - it drops from goblin technicians in
Blackwing Lair. But you do need smelting (comes with mining) to be
able to turn it into Elementium Bars.

Um, no. Profession caps have nothing to do with level, other than certain
minimum levels to pass the next plateau. That said, it makes sense to
extend at least some of them, so that the higher-levels will have craftable
items appropriate for them.

I wonder how that will work for people already at 300? *

You can choose your leatherworking specialization at 300, these are only
additional recipes, so I guess it will be the same for other professions

I'm with you, Rene. I'm betting 3G that the expansion level cap for all
professions is 350 (70x5). >> Stay informed about: secondary talents in the expansion |

No it isn't. That's the cap on *skills*, such as Defense and One-Handed
Swords, but not Professions.
The only cap on Professions is how far you've trained. Apprentice rank
has a cap of 75, Journeyman rank has a cap of 150, etc. There is an
effective level cap in that you can't train Expert rank (300 cap) until
level 35.

They all have a lvl cap, lvl 5 for Apprentice, 10 for Journeyman and I
think 20 for Aristan. >> Stay informed about: secondary talents in the expansion |

Yes it is. It's not directly linked to your characters level, that's true.
But it's not only a strange coincidence that gathering and crafting skills
are capped at 300 (like weapon skills) which is character level x 5.
With a skinning skill of 150, you can skin level 30 mobs. With a LW skill
of 150, you can create leather items suitable for level 30 characters.
With a mining skill of 150 you can mine the highest nodes in high level
20 zones and the lowest nodes in low level 30 areas. And so on.

The *caps* aren't *directly* bound to your characters level, but the actual
recipes or other actions (mine, skin, pick flowers) you can perform with a
profession are.
A level 20 character can use a leatherworking recipe with skill level 225,
but the item created is somewhere in the range of level 45 and he can't
use it.
Besides that: What John wrote, that the professions are capped at the
maximum level x 5, is true anyway.

It's also the cap on what you can do in some cases. It's most evident
with skinning where after a certain point you need a skill of 5 times
the mobs level to skin it, thus a level 31 would take a skinning skill
of 155 and a 40 would take 200. I wouldn't have noticed it except I
powerleveled skinning durring the war effort and it became very
apparent. >> Stay informed about: secondary talents in the expansion |

The exact level varies a bit by profession, and the gathering ones are much
lower, but generally:
Apprentice/journeynan - 5
Expert - 15
Artisan - 40

Apprentice 5
Journeyman 10
Expert 20
Artisan 35
.... is the general levels I know of - secondary professions might not have
the limit on Journeyman but the primary crafting ones certainly do (only a
few days back I had to level a character up to 10 to learn journeyman
tailoring)
I'm not aware of any limits on gathering professions at all, although they
might exist.
