I bought the first Silent Hill for PS1 thinking that it would be
another Resident Evil, it scared me more that RE did. It's very creepy
and the ending can be very ambiguous, depending on which one you get
(there are five).
The only other one I've bought is SH3 for PS2 which has a lot of
unlockables including a machine gun and a flamethrower, both with
infinite ammo (which does tend to make you less frightened).
There's also a load of unlockable T-shirts and a "Special" costume
which has to be seen to be believed...

The best way to describe the difference between RE and SH?
RE is like a jack-in-the-box that gives you a quick fright. SH is like
opening the same jack-in-the-box, only to find it empty apart from a
scrawled note that reads "I'm behind you and I've got a carving
knife..."

Yikes! Just what I need, nightmares about jacks-in-the-box standing
behind me with carving knives! I'm going to have to remember to find at
least the first one for PS. I foresee many sleepless nights!

>Ooohhh man, now that's creepy!!!

That's Survival Horror ^_^

Looking at RE CV, they tried to do the creepy factor with the two mad
twins, but for me it didn't really work (although the film of them
torturing the dragonfly freaked out my ex...).
The best creepy factor bit in any RE has to be the "Itchy , tasty"
journal.

I've been playing "Haunting Ground", the maid in that definately has
the creepy factor.

The film it was based on (A low-budget 60's thing that I can't remember
the name of) was much better.

I think it's a suspense thing - In RE:CV you're controlling the action,
whilst in the film you don't know what's going to happen.

I especially like the "Ugly face so killed him" bit Surprised)

Is that any good? I'm looking to go on a games spree after Christmas
and this one's been recommended to me by a few people.

That is the only part of RE2 which made me jump for about 5 or 7 months
after playing through RE2.
It just kept making me jump, even though I expected it!

There, the crows crashing through the windows, and the arms grabbing
through the boards made me jump in the game.

In RE1 (orig), the dogs jumping through the window had me jumping -
although I expected it.
And the first Hunter had me a bit worried - but not frightened.

There were a couple of moments in RE:Gun Survivor (the first RE
first-person shooter) which made me jump - more because those monsters
were off screen until I turned and jumped at them almost hitting me. Razz

No other points in the game actually scared me.

Nah.
SH just pissed me off!
With fog everywhere stopping me from seeing stuff properly..
I liked SH3 though with the soundtrack and storyline. I think I'll have
to pick that up as it was originally my friends' and he played it then
got rid of it.
I want to get 4 too - as it looks the bomb in a couple of previews I've
seen. It's been out a year or more I think - still haven't got it.

That journal is ace. I've gotta find a way to get those images off the
PS disc - ever since I changed to XP my old program won't work Sad .

Alexia and Alfred Ashford haha, the 2 cracked twins! Yeh they didn't scare
me at all, I felt sorry for them rather than feared them but I did like
how Alexia looked before her major transformation, she looked wicked! I
couldn't help but think that the relationship between the two was kinda
weird??...I mean Alfred calling his sister 'my love'??? I don't know but
I certainly don't call my brother and sisters 'my love', wouldn't that be
'sick' to do so?

I liked it. It's similar to Clock Tower 3 in that you don't have any
real weapons, but you do have a dog that you can order to attack
targets. There are only a few monsters and only one will be after you
at any one time (the first is the Quasimodo-like garderner, then the
maid etc. The maid is really nuts, I wonder which bloody
jack-in-the-box she escaped from).

Also, Fiona (the main character) has a selection of unlockable outfits,
some of which would be dismissed by members of "Girls Aloud" as being
too skimpy ^_^
I kid you not - one out fit is called "Illegal in some States"...

The graphics are well done as well. I think Game are selling it for
about £14.99.

I didn't know that. Mind you, most games nick stuff from films so I
shouldn't be surprised.

Haven't played that yet either! Nice looking though.

Which member? Dare I shame myself buying a game just for a playable
character that looks like that fit Irish bird with the long legs.....?

The twins thing was anyway. The Alfred character is pretty much a
blatant parody of Aldred Hitchcock's "Psycho", right down to the wig
and dress.

There's been numerous other obvious ones (Romero's "Dead" trilogy, Evil
Dead) but "Psycho" is the one that most stands out to me.

Cheers,
Rob

Heh, it would be good if you could play as Cheryl Tweedy, all you'd
have to do is imagine the enemies are cloak room attendants and she's
flatten the lot ^_^

Fiona starts the game in a miniskirt and a top which she says is "a bit
tight around the bust". The other costumes are a frog costume (which
has some combat benefits), a cowgirl outfit (a bikini and leather chaps
- think Dixie Clemets from Rumble Roses and you've got the idea), the
"Illegal" costume is a black leather leotard slashed to the navel, with
long gloves and boots...

Clock Tower 3 is nice, but the boss fights are a pain. Also there are
unlockable outfits, but you can only use them in hard mode.

I should have figured that one! He certainly had a strange obsession
with his sister...

If you see Haunting Ground cheap, I recommend you pick it up.

Gosh aint that the truth, his relationship/feelings towards her were as if
they were lovers, kinda made me feel weird playing it. I couldn't help
but feel sorry for him in some ways though, it seemed that all the
attention and hope was focussed on Alexia and Alfred was kind of the
'other child', no wonder he came across as 'sick'.
