11 of the 16 posts from April 4 through April 30 were pure spam (much
of it WoW spam, no less). It's just sad to see this in a community
that I enjoyed so much for so long. Sad

I've noticed a big jump in blogs and webforums for several years
now. Usenet newsgroups and webrings have dropped off.

That is true.

But, there are certain things for resolution of which I rely upon this
community. I hope that those experienced players continue to support this
group.

I seem to recall reading a heck of a lot of posts "If you dont like the game
then leave, you wont be missed" in response to valid criticisms of the game,
particularly in the 6 months or so before WOW release.
I guess its another case of you should be careful what you wish for.

Heck, I'm probably guilty of expressing that sentiment to some degree
at one time or another (and wouldn't take it back), but man, this
place is a ghost town.

I'm still here. /salute rumbledor

I ran out of time to play. By the time I get back in the game I'll
have to level from 70 to 80 (hypothetically speaking), and that
doesn't sound like much fun.

For me Vanguard has taken the place of EQ. Not because I like it more
but because all my friends like it more. I like it well enough so if
it's a choice of playing EQ on my own or playing Vanguard with my
friends, the choice is pretty easy.

I still have age on the subscribed list of newsgroups though out of
nostalgia.

So you don't find it any fun unless you are at max level, then? Out of
curiosity, why is that?

While in theory I totally agree with the sentiment behind your question,
the reality of EQ at the moment is that the population is top heavy and
if you hope to get consistent pickup groups on returning to the game,
then leveling is your major obstacle.

This is mitigated somewhat if you have a bunch of friends already
in-game who are either the same level or who'll group with their other
friends regardless of any level differences.

Usenet as a discussion medium is slowly but surely dying. Many busy
groups are now almost empty as ISPs begin to drop newsgroup support
completely and people move to web forums.

Still, feel free to hang onto your feeble anti-EQ obsession. FWIW
many people I know who quit EQ for WoW have now quit WoW post Burning
Crusade while some of us chuckle quietly and continue to enjoy the
huge amount of content and variety EQ offers.

To be expected. Blizzard need to learn to stop fiddling with class balance.
People are sick and tired of the continual nerfs.

"feeble" and "obsession" would seem to be more applicable to the minority
who still play eq.

I'm not trying to start a WoW vs EQ battle (that seems to happen
nicely w/o me) but I was just on vacation for 2 weeks, and when I come
back there are 50 posts in the EQ newsgroup (mostly mourning the lack
of posts) and 23,908 posts in the WoW newsgroup. I think the lack of
posts has a little more to do with the relative popularity of the two
games than it does with the death of usenet.

Very likely true. I use Allakhazam, and the EQ section is also
virtually dead in comparison with the WoW section.
