I downloaded the current xmame (version 0.106) off x.mame.net
and compiled it on Fedora 5 Linux. The compile worked
fine but when I start it up with a rom, it loads them (in
this case for xevious), says "done" and then doesn't do
anything. Just wondering if anyone has a clue what
could hang that up. I compiled with GCC 4.1.1 and set it
up to use X11 and XV, I know FC5 has Xv because I ran
xvinfo. I have xevious.zip so I tried that:

The docs say make sure the DISPLAY variable is ok,
mine is set to :0.0 which should be ok since I'm
running on my local box. If it hadn't found and been
able to unzip the rom, then it should have said "NOT FOUND"
for each rom, so I think it's finding the rom files ok.
(I tried a name of a mame supported rom that I
don't have to try that out)

I sometimes, cannot say when, have this too. I usually kill the X server
and restart it and it works again.

I have a feeling it's because I'm using the open source Xorg
nv module for my Nvidia 6600GT card instead of the
closed Nvidia proprietary one. The Xorg basic module
is really handy because I don't have to recompile or install
the Nvidia one each time I update my kernel, but it's really
slow at certain graphics (opengl screen savers crawl on it).

A guy at work also suggested I just install xmame via rpm package for my
particular distro instead of compiling xmame from scratch. I
did the compile figuring the code would run faster
that way since I can tailor the cpu arch at compile time.
I'll try all these and see what works out.
