Post subject: router to computer to playstation2 problem
Archived from groups: alt>games>video>sony-playstation2 (more info?)

I have my router downstairs which is connected wirelessly to my
computer upstairs; this connection is fine. I have my playstation 2
connected to my computer with an RJ45 crossover cable which also
appears to be fine.
But the problem is when i try and set it up on the playstation with the
network disk it gets past the first test which says that it connects,
then when it tries to find the DNS address on the second test, it
fails.

I have tried connecting my playstation 2 directly to the router which
works perfectly. but that involves having a long wire running down my
stairs which i do not want.

I have ticked the internet connection sharing boxes on the wireless
network.

I have also gone into the tcp/ip properties of the computer to the ps2
network, and found that the DNS addresses were empty. but not knowing
much about networking, I left it blank so I didn't mess anything else
up. If i click the "obtain DNS addresses automaticaly" box the network
says its "limmited or no connectivity".

Has anyone any answers to help?

The description of problem of the OP is a bit vague, but your remark
doesn't help much.
My Ps2 is connected to a hub which is connected to a wireless bridge
which is connected to my router. That works fine for me.
Also for the reason not to have a long wire run down the stairs to my
router.
To the op: if you plug the ps2 directly on the pc (for nat or something
like that) you'll probably need a crosscable.
