alt.games.adnd is almost inactive -- so far this month, it's only had
one post that wasn't also posted here -- and AFAICT RGFD makes it
redundant. Why don't we close it down?

I would do it myself, but I can't find a free Usenet server that accepts
control messages.

Wonder where you're getting your usenet?

Nine posts to a.g.adnd this month, eight of them more or less on
topic. While that's certainly not an rgfd or alt.slack level of
activity, I don't think it qualifies as "inactive". It's nice to have
a place where ad&d discussion doesnt get lost in the "munchkin this"
and "oh noes, 4e!!!1!!" threads.

There's a reason for that.

It's a moot point, rmgouping alt groups has never worked.

Originally it was because there would be an immediate newgroup sent in
response by a certain Toronto-area sysadmin. Now it's simply because
almost no servers bother to process rmgoups for alt groups, (or even
newgroups in many cases).

If you could get rid of alt groups, ag.adnd would have been gone long ago.

That is the problem, you can't really 'close down' a usenet group. They
will eventually get dropped by individual servers if the traffic on them is
nil.

There are very few (if any) NSPs that will drop an unused group. Most NSPs
use group count as a marketing tool, so the larger the number they can
point to, the better.
