I'm not entirely sure that I have fully understood what you were saying, so
I am just going to give you some facts (as I know them) about copying Sims.

The Neighbourhoods folder contains all your neighbourhood information. N001
is Pleasant View. N002 is Strange Town. N003 is Verona Ville. Any other
numbers are neighbourhoods that you have created yourself.

To replace an existing neighbourhood with a backed up neighbourhood, delete
the appropriate existing folder before adding your backup or you may
encounter bugs.

To put a backed up folder into the game as a completely new neighbourhood
you need for it to be a different number from the others in the
Neighbourhoods folder. If it is the same number as an existing neighbourhood
that you do not wish to delete you can rename one or the other of them to an
available/free number BUT you must also go in and change the sub-folder
numbers and any files that contain the folder number too.

Although the N### folder contains a Characters file you should not move this
folder alone. Only move whole neighbourhoods.

Deleting the Neighbourhoods folder and rebooting the game will cause it to
regenerate the folder and N### folders back to the state they were in when
you first installed the game.

Hope I have been of help.

I didn't understand exactly what she was saying either but I've a feeling
she means restoring after installing the new EP (maybe?) in which case she
won't be able to do it since the (any) new EP updates the sims files in situ
during installation. Sims files for Nightlife are not the same as the ones
for University and I assume this is also true of OFB.

Best wishes
