Maniac Mansion and Zak McKracken have spawned several fan-remakes and
sequels. To my knowledge there's not even an attempt to make a fanbased
Monkey Island. Even though MI was the longest running and probably has the
biggest fanbase.
Why is this?
The first two MI's could do with a graphical update. (Games like Defender of
the Crown and Another World even got a 'pro' remake). The MI-universe could
be a treasure trove of fangames. Yet *nothing* happened, making a mockery of
the 'they always come back' slogan.
So there, a post that's On Topic. Not that that's gonna last...

Hmmm, I don't know how Zak and MM came to be, but LA (or whatever the
new acronym was again ("just bastards")) are quite tightarses when it
comes to copyright stuff.
Also I think Zak and MM were a little lower down the ladder
graphically and interface wise as MI1 and 2...

True, but the difference in visual quality between zack and MI1 is tiny
compared to todays standards.
I'd sooner see an expaination in the degree of difficulty a MI has as
opposed to MM or ZM. Also the lower nostalgia factor, the series ended much
more recently, may account for something.

Because LucasArts, being the bastards that they are, put a stop to them
as soon as they hear about it.
> So there, a post that's On Topic. Not that that's gonna last...
Actually, the percentage of on-topic posting is reasonably good for a
series whose last release was 6 years ago.

They haven't done so for some 30 chapters of German Maniac Mansion.
That they'll ban usage of Indiana Jones or Star Wars probably has to do more
with the fact it's origins are outside of games and they're still 'living'
franchises. Might they still see MI as a viable franchise?

6 years? I can't imagine Guybrush going six years between releases.
