The digital Saturn pad was OK (the underside is uncomfortable), but
whoever designed the Nights pad and the Dreamcast's pad should be shot.

Does anyone know if the USB Saturn pad works in the PS2 USB ports? I

As far as I've been able to test, USB peripherals of all description don't
work on the PS2 unless the software specifically works to detect and make
use of them. By way of example, unless Capcom has code in the SF
Collection that detects and accepts input from the internal USB hub, the
Saturn USB pad won't work with it. The Xbox has a similar story, in that
the Xbox controller is not quite a standard USB controller, so you can't
substitute another USB pad for it and have it be detected.

This is great news for console manufacturers who want to license and
otherwise control what hardware connects to their systems. This is bad for
gamers, who just want nice input devices and don't want to suffer through
nonsensical ergonomic designs created by committees. Anybody pick up a
Virtual Boy controller lately?

You've already got the Xbox controller. That's pretty much the same
thing.

I would disagree, but for really nitpicky reasons. The Sega controller has
six face buttons arranged in two horizontal rows of three, meaning that I
can maintain a firm grip with the right hand and move my thumb comfortably
left and right across them. The Sony-esque diamond of action buttons on
the Xbox controller is accompanied by the white and black buttons in such
a haphazard placement that I have to move my thumb in an unnatural way up
and down along the face of the controller. That means a loose right-hand
grip and less precision. Also, the handle surfaces underneat the Sega pad
are thin and comfortable in my hands, whereas even the bulgy handles of
the Xbox Controller S are distractingly stiff and uncomfortable.

Of course, this is all my opinion and you're free to disagree. People who
dig analog buttons and have larger hands than I do may prefer the Xbox
controller over all others. If we all liked the same things in our game
hardware and game software then EA would have no lowest common denominator
to pander to, would they?

individual criminal charges too? I can just pay a fine or serve jail time

If you personally were the number one non governmental employer then
yes, I think you could.

Man, the fine -- small as it was -- was the least egregious part
of that news! Worse is that in return for settling up, Wal-Mart will get
15 days notice before _any_ labour law investigation (not just child
labour laws, but overtime, minimum wage, etc violations) will commence
against them, aka the "shred the evidence grace period".
