Hi. I just checked the most recent posts, and I don't think my request
quite matches any of the others. I haven't bought a game for years
(except a secondhand Civ III which doesn't really rival Civ II IMO). I
still play Civ II and sometimes TOAW, also occasionally Battleground
Civil War and Napoleonics games. Can anyone recommend a turn based
strategic or operational level game for solo play? I should warn you I
still like looking down on hexes, I don't want first person views!
(must be nearly 40 years conditioning of playing AH and Wargamer
boardgames.) Ideally I'd like a game which would run on my PIII-500.
Thanks
Chris

Check out the many HPS games. Best place to buy is nws-online.net.

Thanks for the idea. I may try one of those, or I might go for Korsun
Pocket for now - until I have a better PC.

As all the Battles in ... games are based on an evolving engine the
system requirements for each game in the series should be about the
same.

Battles in Normandy and Korsun Pocket + Across the Dnepr run just a tad
slow on my secondary P2/300 machine, but it's still do-able.

There's a demo out for iirc Battles in Normandy ?? so you might try to
see how smoothly it runs on your machine.

You might want to check out Frank Hunter's operational Napoleonic game,
"Campaigns on the Danube", from Matrix. It's a unique game that is truly
operational.

I haven't tried it, but other folk here are very fond of "Crown of Glory",
also from Matrix.
