I have noticed over time that there seems to be less and less interest
in this newsgroup. I can recall times in the distant past where there
would be dozens of post here a day. And most were actually posts worth
reading. Has there been a loss of interest on this newsgroup, or is
there some sort of neat "post bashing" filter in place? The latter would
be nice, wouldn't it?

I think it's all part of the general decline in the quality and
quantity of usenet group contributions, as people spemnd more of
their time on Google groups and fora associated with particualr
web-sites. There are probably more active wargamers posting more
good stuff to the net than ever before; unfortunately, they are
spread around all over the place, whereas in the old days there
were only a few usenet groups to choose from.

It's another example of the marvellous way in which modern
technology can make things better and better without ever
producing any actual improvement.

All the best,

John.

People have been posting about the decline in Usenet for years and yet it
gets bigger.

This NG has always dry spells. Basically it's because you don't have a
critical mass of people who actually like each other. A certain amount of
OT actually sustains NGs and builds communities.

Since it was the never ending political arguments that drove myself,
and many others off the group I don't think so.

I'll agree with John that the explosion of Yahoo groups (and such), as
well as TMP has gotten most gamers to narrowly define their interest in
the hobby.

Listening to narrow minded political hacks of all flavors did not help
however.

I don't know about less interest. However, the number of posts has
declined, in part because you can go to a Yahoo group (there's Goggle
Groups too -- egad -- not to mention MSN groups -- which are worthless),
and deal with the specialist. This groups is very often general in its
over view (however, the expertise in some areas is huge!!).

I dropped out for several months during the political arguments. Nice
to see things the way they are. Who knows, we may get some folks back.

It is just part of the general decline in the use of usenet. We run a usenet
news service here, it used to be a critical service but the usage now is so
low we are considering turning it off, just isn't worth the maintenance
overhead.

Cheers

Where do the historical gamers go that do not want to argue the aspects
of historical implications or how historical a Warhammer 40K army is.
