i disagree that the original is the best, as i think rally 2 is
definitely
a step up (that's another discussion though)...
i have the pc version of sega rally revo (by the way, it was supposed
to come out nov 19th in the US, but is still not out...if anyone knows
when it comes out, or gets it, let me know, and i'll update the
wikipedia
entry)...
more background, i have played pretty much all sega racers since
outrun came out in the arcade, virtua racing, daytona, etc..i also
have a genesis/saturn/dreamcast etc...i have bought all the sega
racing ports for the pc...rally, rally2, manx tt, daytona, daytona
deluxe,
sega gt etc.....and played all of them a lot...i wrote the sega rally
faq
on gamefaqs...
(anyways, i don't have sega rally 2006 to compare to, or an xbox360,
or ps3).....so i'm pretty much coming into sega rally revo fresh...
i've been playing the uk version for the last few weeks...my gaming
setup, intel duoCore 2.0G, with 2gigs memory, nVidia GTS 8600 w/
256meg,
windows Vista premium, so its a decent setup....crazily enough, i'm
using
a sega saturn joystick through USB, since i don't like new
controllers..
i have updated the sega rally revo game, with the latest patch, and
am using the latest stable drivers from nVidia....i am using the
application FRAPS 2.9.2 to do dx10 framerates...i am running
the game at the following resolutions,
19 inch widescreen LCD - 1280x1024 (dual screen)
21 inch analog monitor 1024x768
32 inch widescreen LCD HDTV - 900x720
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i still have not done extensive testing through all the courses, and
cars yet though..
preliminary testing through each of the first 5 course shows
that framerates vary from 15fps - 55 fps [i ran the test from the
start of the race until the end of the 3rd lap]..
i picked random cars, the average fps is about 33-38fps depending
on the track and number of cars on the screen
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i could post some screenshots, and videos, etc..
anyways, this is with all graphics settings on the HIGHEST setting,
and also with 8x oversampling (i haven't tried with 16x yet)..i'm sure
the rate would go up, if i turned off some settings..
so it's a pretty decent rate, yeah, i would prefer a solid 60fps..
anyways, i have not had any dropouts / slowdown / or lag...
(oddly, there is some right at the very beginning of the race
which does not affect gameplay).......i have not had any
experience with online yet...
i'm happy with the gameplay, and the framerates, and
actually i didn't even know there were issues until i
read about them in these newsgroups..
feel free to ask anymore questions..
