Unable to grasp the basic concepts of the English language, Shawk

Which adds a little red circle with a line through it to the thread
column, and after closing and reopening the newsgroup, this gets rid of
the messages... or crashes Thunderbird. Mostly the crash thing. I really
wanted to like Thunderbird, but it will simply have to serve as an email-
only client from now on.

Oh. In my book that counts as deleting a message so I never have to see
it again Wink

However never had a crash here in a few years of use so that's a shame.

What version of TB do you use? I've never had it crash after 'k'ing a
thread. Originally, TB used to do precisely what you're talking about,
except that it was changed because people didn't like the fact that it
was too easy to killfile entire threads accidentally, with no easy way
to get the thread back. You can't please everyone I guess Smile

Well, that "no easy way to get threads back" is the exact reason I no
longer use TBird, since it's still there (maybe they should have fixed
that instead). I didn't know about the K thing, and they stupidly have
DELETE set to issue the CANCEL command, which almost absolutely no
newsserver around today honors, so I unsubscribed and deleted all
messages in my groups, hoping to be able to reload them. Unfortunately,
TBird uses a hidden cache (which isn't so hidden that I can't find it if
I need to, but I'm just too lazy and annoyed to bother), which makes it
exceptionally difficult to load only the newest N messages for groups
that have previously been subscribed to (it loads older messages first).
Couple that with Giganews awesome retention (it has messages for this
group back to June 2003), and you have a recipe for pain.

Thunderbird is the thinking man's Outlook Express: sure, it's a much
better app, but it's still not a real newsreader. Of course, in TBird's
defense, I must say that I have confidence that this issue may be fixed
eventually, which I definitely can't say about anything made by
Microsoft.

XNews, btw, is a real (awesome) newsreader. There are only two things I
don't like about XNews, and there are easy workarounds for both of them.

It seems like no one is posting about anything else for the last week.
Looking at Google groups, it looks like MI5 guy went back into
hibernation for a while on Jan. 2.

To get back on topic, I just finished playing Episode 2 and was a little
disappointed. The final strider fight annoying. Except for the very
end there isn't much in the story that is at risk from spoilers, if you
get what I mean. I enjoy the universe that Half-Life inhabits and the
narrative didn't get expanded on or pushed forward much in this episode.

Episode 3 better be epic. (I really liked Episode 1)

I actually found it a lot of fun once I realized how you were supposed
to do it. Splat the Hunters with your car, then grab the gizmo off the
back and let fly. (It also helps to quick-save right before you let
fly, in case you miss.) It's a *lot* easier when the Hunters are that
much less of a bother.

I figured that out too but unfortunately I was playing the game on the
XBox 360 and I never quite got the hang of handling the Charger with the
360 control.
Playing the game on the 360 was a bit of a chore as well, maybe that was
where my problems were. Switching weapons is complicated on the 360,
you use the 4 way D pad to select weapon slots, again... something I
didn't quite get the hang of. The best 360 shooters only let you choose
between two weapons. When I was trying to switch between the gravity
gun and the pistol I kept ending up with the crossbow or something else
I didn't want.

I'm going through the game again with the commentary on, maybe it'll be
more enjoyable the second time through
