Im quite sure Im already good to pray, and was going to do so to bless
a potion of water I currently have... but I also currently have a
non-aligned unicorn corpse that i could sac. before or after I pray.

Its not clear to me if I should sac the unicorn before or after if Im
already ready to pray. What would you do?

thx

How sure are you that you can savely pray? If you don't know, and don't
have a wand or potion of enlightenment that you would be willing to spend,
just offer a corpse (maybe something more trivial than the unicorn) and
read the message. A feeling of reconciliation or a four leaf clover are
signs that you can savely pray. A hopeful feeling is a bad sign. The
unicorn might be more useful after the water prayer, to reduce the now
increased timeout for any future emergencies.

Of course, if any of these suggestions would mean that the unicorn corpse
will be spoiled (dead for more than 50 turns) before you can offer it, by
all means offer it now.

If you are completely positive that you are safe to pray, offering
the unicorn after prayer will reduce your prayer timeout nicely.
If you're wrong about being safe to pray, offering the unicorn will
not be enough to repair the damage.

--- Insert scene from the Dirty Harry movie that ends with
"Are you feeling lucky?"

Look at the turn counter. Subtract a thousand. Look at your notes
on what turn you last prayed. Use that number to decide. I like to
#name my bag of holding with the turn number I last prayed.

Ofcourse to be absolutely sure you have to substract by 3500, otherwise
however low the probability maybe, but there is still a chance, that
the RNG is
not happy.
