Its too bad. A GK4 would have been great. I guess all we can do is
replay games like GK series. I'mm glad I kept the three GK games, and
many other good games, especially from that time period.

In GK3 when you typed GK4 in Sydney it said something about ghosts. When
someone asked Jane Jensen if there were plans to make GK4 she said: "Yes,
you can see in the ending of GK3 that there were plans for a sequel. If I
had thought "this is the last" I would have tried to wrap things up more
neatly. And yes, my plans for GK4 at that time involved ghosts and was to be
set in England."

I never thought of doing that in GK3. When I next re-play it, I will
type GK 4 in Sydney.

And I bet it would have been great. Wouldn't it be great if Jane was
allowed to make GK4 some day. I wonder why Sierra wouldn't allow her to
make GK4. It would have been successful.

I belive Sierra doesn't belive adventure games are profitable. Maybe they
will change their mind as adventure games are slowly coming back. Success of
Syberia, Fahrenheit, The longest journey... might make them change their
mind.
Let's keep our fingers crossed. And let's hope, if they do decide to make
adventure games, they will involve the right people to make them, like Jane
Jensen and Roberta Williams.

Haha...this is the response I was expecting - I shoulda' been a troll. I
play every genre of game known to man. Wargames, strategy games, flight
sims, tactical sims, racing sims, RPG's, sports games, even simple
action games. The problem with adventure games in general is that the
puzzles are usually just gibberish that any monkey can come up with and
moving your mouse to every possible place on the screen to find a hot
spot is just annoying. Very annoying!
As for books, I like, and have read, Camus, Sartre, Hesse, Hardy, J.G.
Ballard, Dostoyevski, Gide, Turgenev... etc...etc. How about you? >> Stay informed about: Now I know why adventure games are not very popular |

Good news, then...you are a troll.

You haven't gotten more than 5 minutes into the game, have you? Clicking
randomly on hotspots won't solve anything.

Well, this started as a topic about Cyberia and it turned into chat about other games but back into the topic (because I do not like being picky) I will say what I remember about that game.
Me and my ex got into playing the game when he bought the IBM Aptiva (bundle) that had the series of problems with MWAVE. I saw the game, it looked entertaining. It took a while to figure out how to avoid the explosion; it was pain to figure out. Both my ex and I took a couple of days to figure out how to avoid it. Sadly after we solved that puzzle the computer experienced a series of problems that prevented us to go any further.
The game looked good, it was very challenging and I can assure you if it wasn't for the problems with the Aptiva A40 we would have completed it. That bit that I played on it wasn't bad at all. If it had been a demo I would have bought the game.
The truth is I LOVE games like this. I hate to watch movies, I rather have a roll in it. Do not like to be part of something that I can't control. Since movies take unpredictable endings I rather control some of the things that happen and that's why comparing games like this to an experience [like] a movie is not quite hitting the nail on the head.
http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/cyberia/reviews/reviewerId,3250/
However, and I know this thread is quite old. My question is; are you reviewing a game that you finished? Or is this a game you just can't figure out? Overly easy games to solve are not entertaining, but overly hard games to solve call for lack of interest in my part. A hint book is the best way to deal with those, but some games not even. Such is the case with Riven (the Myst sequel) which I never passed. That game I just couldn't figure out even with hints and walk-through. That's worse than a game in which you have to look for hot spots on the screen to click on.
I am a fan of the Zork series and they were indeed very entertaining. Hard to figure out but with a small hint help, you could go places. In conclusion, puzzle solving is not for everyone. Some people prefer the blood shedding, shooting fast moving games like my current husband who likes games like Half-Life 2. He assured me one day "the puzzles in half life are so hard that you wont be able to pass it" then guess what, a month later I had passed Half-Life 2. No walkthrough. Ask a Zork literate person to play Half-Life 2 and while our reflexes are not too strong, the puzzles are basically a breeze. (BTW I give HL2 a 4/5 just because bloody games are not my thing). You don't like Cyberia I assure you, put it in eBay and someone will indeed want it. >> Stay informed about: Now I know why adventure games are not very popular |
