Well you guys know me, I'm a big fan of the retro games. First I
retrieved my Daikatana CD from the upper desk drawer (that's where I
keep the good stuff) and placed it in the drive. A weird whirring
sound occurred which I hadn't heard before. Once I realized the
whirring sound was not coming from my cousins computer which is right
next to mine...
......wait.. Side note... I need to explain that for a minute.. here in
the sticks of Pennsylvania we have bit of a problem with inbreeding,
which makes manyof our family members incapable of working. Those of
us who can have to carry the load so we usually end up with 25 or 30
folks living in a 3BR apartment. It's good in a way because it forces
those of us who own PCs to come up with creative cooling solutions...
Its amazing what such a high occupancy level does to the thermal
dynamic of a living space.
.... anyway so I realized it wasn't his computer and the whirring sound
was actually coming from my drive. Normally I wouldn't be so
concerned with something as trivial as a whirring sound, but this
particular CD drive was an old 8x drive which has a great amount of
sentimental value to me (don't ask me to explain... let's just say it
has seen more of it's share of Jenna Jamison movies
So I took out the CD and turned it over, and saw what appeared to be a
dried loogey stuck to the CD... I sat back, took a deep breath, then
screamed "what the f--ck!" at the highest octave my voice is capable
of. I felt better after that and put the CD back in, loaded up my
favorite game and played for the rest of the day.
What was really amazing to me is that after all these years, the
graphics are not too far behind Crysis (at least on my particular
LCD). The gameplay is pretty good too. Having my 34 year old brother
Ernie on my lap made it a bit hard to move the mouse though.
